Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time

Posted by cindydee @cindydee, Mar 20, 2018

I just had a reclast infusion last week and have had serious side effects. I had the worst flue like aching for 5 days then my lefty arm became full of inflammation in the wrist, elbow and shoulder which caused extreme pain and I lost the ability to straighten my elbow. Ultrasound showed huge amounts of fluid throughout the arm. The right arm is now starting to have the same symptoms. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Neither the ER doctor nor the Dr. who prescribed the procedure knew what to do to ease the symptoms. Both arms from fingertips to shoulder are swollen and neither elbow will straighten. Anyone else have adverse reactions to the reclast infusion? If yes, how long did it last?

Interesting comment. Where did you become aware of this variance?

WindyShores doctor ordered a 1 mg test dosage because of the condition of her kidneys. Then other comments were made about smaller dosages may be as effective or nearly as effective as the standard dosage. Then these reports solidified the concept for me.

Do you know if anyone who has had the lower dose has had side effects similar to ours? I’m very interested in this dosage but not completely sure it is a good choice for me.

Exactly what are the acute phase of flu like symptoms? I’m not familiar with this term.

Sorry, I only know of the term via WindyShores. I gather the acute phase is maybe a week of very severe flu like symptoms.

Reading your comments is not encouraging to me! I had a Reclast injection in July 2024 and have now been experiencing the same type of pain you describe. The pain is quite unimaginable, like someone trying to crush your bone in a vise. How do we diminish these side effects? I had a similar experience with Prolia with my right leg and two weeks after my missed injection all the side effects were gone. It doesn’t sound like Reclast leaves the body as quickly.

It’s been 8 months and I still have the symptoms. Nausea seems to of decreased but the pain in my shoulders and left foot are Far from gone; enjoying Retirement, Not!
