Co-Enzyme Q 10 (100 mg daily) Stops Statin Leg Pain

Hi, I'm taking 20 mg Atorvastatin and my legs were aching. My great Cardiologist told me that statin medications rob the body of the supplement Co Q 10 and taking 100 mg a day would alleviate the problem. I take now Co-enzyme Q 10 100 mg daily and it totally stopped the leg pain. Hope this is helpful to some.

I was taking 80 mg of atorvastatin for two years. I also took coq10. For several months I’ve had leg cramps and was given a CPK test which indicates I have Rhabdomyolysis. Complicating matters I also have an autoimmune reaction which requires either steroid or IV treatments. If you are experiencing cramping or stiffness please don’t hesitate to get tested. Rhabdomyolysis threatens kidneys and the liver. I wish I’d acted more quickly.

Perhaps the coq10 was ameliorating the effects of the statin but that only slowed down a serious problem.

Please do beware that CoQ10 should be used without peperine which is put in some CoQ10 to help absorption. It actually can affect the absorption of you meds. with me it was Verapimil it interferes with the absorption and I then had BP issue and went back into Coroanry Spasms.

Peperine (black pepper) is used in a lot of supplements. I am always careful to read everything in a supplement and always avoid perperine. As you said it can also change the absorption of pharmaceutical medications ofter increasing the absorption. Among those other issues it can also increase heart rate and increasing bleeding in higher doses.
