Started Repatha - Side Effects
I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

I am off of all cholesterol reducing drugs drugs. I have elevated LP(a) which these drugs don’t help anyway. That’s why people die from heart attacks that are on statins and have low cholesterol.
They are in clinical trials for drugs for Lpa now. Something should be coming out soon. PcSk9 inhibitors like Repatha has shown to reduce Lp (a) (lipoprotein [a]) levels by 25% to 30%
People don't have heart attacks that are statins and have low cholesterol. If you are eating the same way you did before it's the inflammation that causes soft plaque to rupture that leads to heart attacks.
I stand corrected about Repatha. But, I can’t take it due to extreme side effects. But, Yes, it's possible to have a heart attack even if you have low cholesterol. In fact, most heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels. Statins do not lower LP(a). I have read about some trials for drugs that lower LP(a), but trials scare me.
I started Repatha a year ago. I had little side effects at first. I have been taking simvastatin also. I found that this is the only statin that I can tolerate in a low dose. I take 10 mg day 1, then 10 mg the next day and 20 on the 3rd day, otherwise I start getting the muscle aches. At first I had few side effect with repatha. I only take it once a month. Lately though the side effects have been getting worse. Leg pain, knee pain, back pain, flu like symptoms, my head hurts, sometimes my stomach aches. I am an avid cyclist. I cannot live like this. I had a heart attack in a minor blood vessel about 2 years ago. I was having some mild pain riding up steep hills, but then I rode with some faster people and the pain grew more intense. I went to the emergency room and sure enough. They tried to open the blockage but they couldn’t and then wanted to go in again with heavier duty equipment to try to clear the blockage but I declined it for fear that something might go wrong. They gave me a beta blocker which actually prevented my heart rate from entering the pain zone (greater than 120). I was back on the bike in 2 days. Gradually I stopped taking the beta blocker and I no longer have any pain. It is logical that collateral blood vessels developed around the blockage which solved that problem. Back to the Repatha. I will skip taking it all together next month and try again the month after. I am very sensitive to most medicines. After all, you have to realize that these are really poisons we are putting in our bodies. It does seem, at least for sensitive individuals, that the side effects build up over time with Repatha. It takes up to 85 to 102 days to leave you system completely. This tells me that if you take it twice a month or once a month there is a certain amount (remnants) that will be accumulating in your system, like it or not. My body is telling me that it doesn’t like it.
Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I can tell the Repatha is leaving my body, none too fast, however, but I am getting better and better. I am very active as well and do not want to live life unable to be active. Being active is what my life is about for me and my joy. It’s a dilemma. Honestly, I’d rather just die of a heart attack than live the life that I had on statins and Repatha. I recently have been reading about potential meds for LP(a), which is elevated for me, as well. Seems most meds for LP(a) are in trials which means they are just now working to find out what the side effects are, which could be very harmful, or you could just get a placebo. I just am at a loss. My doctor said, “if you can’t take the meds, I have nothing for you.” On my own I just started taking Beta-Sitosterol Plant Sterols. I read it can reduce cholesterol. I am trying to take care of myself because my doctor basically says if I don’t take meds that make me sick he won’t treat me. I ordered my own Lipid Panel before starting the Plant Sterols and will do another one in 6 months. Fingers crossed. BTW, I eat healthy and clean, am active, not overweight.
Repatha is a biologic drug, meaning it has organic matter in it. It can interact with your immune system and cause infections. I now have an upper respiratory infection. A friend suggested that I take an OTC liver detox to get rid of the toxins in my body from the Repatha. I just ordered one on Amazon.
Let me be clear on something. If anyone has had difficulty with statins or has had side effects from other drugs, that person will eventually reject Repatha and feel miserable. I didn’t know that it was a biologic until today. That is very troublesome. The drug maker seems to try to keep that under wraps. These drugs are miracle drugs until they aren’t. The drug makers come like carpetbaggers hoping that they can reap their billions before the walls cave in.
Wow. Very interesting and good to know. My heart doctor doesn’t care about anything except low numbers. He was giddy when my numbers fell with Repatha. Ugh. There is so much more to all this than numbers.
Tell me. They don’t care about anything else. They don’t even believe when people have side effects. They’re really out to kill you, but they achieve the numbers they want.
I really like my cardiologist, but I can tell it’s all about the numbers. I suffered side effects of statins for 2 years, while he minimized it. I had to tell him I was stopping either with or without his permission. He said ok. Pain and weakness went away but numbers back up. I had 4 months of feeling good again and he asked me to try Zetia. Within a week the pain started again. Now he’s called in Repatha. I have not started it.
