Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?
I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

I forgot to mention that I used Flucinonide liquid topical on my head. It helped a bit and was the only thing I could put in my hair without making a goopy mess like the creams did.
I was diagnosed with Grover disease or Darier disease but they weren’t sure which one. My symptoms all point to Grover’s and not darriers. I have no heard of one person who has totally found a cure for this. I have tried so many things such as vitamin a supplements, deodorant on skin, topical steroids, and vitamin d3. Nothings has worked for me. I’m a 30 year old female who has been badly burned many times in my life. My problem is the worst on my stomach and if I’m having a horrible break out it will spread to my back. I can’t use lotion or any soaps without my rash worsening? If anyone has found a cure for this please respond to me and tell me what worked for you. Thank you!!
I forgot to mention that I was told by my dermatologist that this disease is extremely hard to treat. She wanted to see if I would try accutane but I am against this because of the serious health risks with this acne medication. Has anyone tried this? Has this worked for anyone? I would do it if I knew the rash would not come back. I’m desperately looking for answers without any luck so far. I’ve read this entire strand of messages and even tried a few treatments from what I’ve read. I have noticed that in the summer my rash seems to get better. I am afraid to let my body have any sun on it since I think this was caused by sunburns in the first place. My dermatologist also suggested light therapy, but I from what I’ve read the relief is only temporary.
Kako, i can't help with Darier at all. @gardeningjunkie seems to know a lot about different sorts of skin issues so hopefully she can weigh in. As it relates to Grover's disease, i shared in a prior message what my whole crazy regimen is. Combination of OTC products as well as prescription. While i have the rash, it's not that bad - but i do have itchiness all over my torso and neck - which my approach seems to help with (at least between applications of all the creams and lotions). The only "cure" i have read here is what was posted last week about taking cilantro. Only time i have read that people have seen something that looks like remission. Of course Grover's tends to go away and come back, but the cilantro story was appealing to me that i started taking cilantro extract two days ago. It's not the most pleasant taking stuff but i am going to stick with it as my travel schedule is not going to support me carrying around bunches of the real stuff to eat everyday. Oh, related to sun - my dermatologist told me that sun was great for it - when i went away to the Caribbean i did notice a lot less itching (of course, i wasn't wearing much clothing most of the time so there is that). But i bet your normal disposition to the sun as well as whether sweating bothers your particular situation is going to be more relevant. I have to stay away from accutane - sensitive liver and frankly i guess i would rather be itchy than dealing with a problem liver. But that's me - see what others say about it - i have read it does work to reduce the rash as does light treatments (see point about the SUN above) but each has its own challenges.
Good luck.
kako- There is no cure for any form of eczema that I am aware of. It's chronic, meaning no cure. Yet, my 2 other forms of eczema can be managed with contact avoidance to allergies, skin treatment and medications. We are all searching for products, treatments and lifestyle to manage our Grover's symptoms. Grover's is not the only mysterious form of eczema and just like other forms of eczema treatments may help some but do nothing for others. I am probably being too optimistic or have placebo affect going but after going on the fresh cilantro regime that kimass1 shared I truly think my new outbreak of Grover's is diminishing starting on day 3, just like others on the Earth Clinic site mentioned. I'm on day 5 of the cilantro smoothie (2 cups for me with no added sugar probiotic yogurt and no added sugar almond milk with 2 tiny pinches of Stevia). My smoothie is not disgusting like I imagined it would be, just fine. I shouldn't really share this yet, it's just I'm so excited about at least not getting worse right now. I'll update on my results in a few weeks and hope others do also. The Earth Clinic site had many, maybe half, of the bloggers posting about success with cilantro and some had been suffering for years without relief. Others stated it nothing. Sure worth a try.
@gardeningjunkie You are right. I don't think Cilantro is a "cure" but it sure does seem to put it in remission or at the very least reduce the severe itching and rash (considerably) for many. I am happy to hear that it might be working for you as well. I have to say that I do get one or two papules that pop up on occasion since being on the smoothie regimen. But they leave as quickly as they came. Where before I was loaded with them (hundreds) and they could last for weeks or months, and they would migrate all over my body. These don't itch nearly as bad either, so I will continue with Cilantro and Chorella for as long as needed.
@seth971 Were you able to determine how much extract to take to be the equivalent to a bunch? It was my understanding that extracts and pills were less effective. Please let me know your thoughts and if the extract works. I would gladly trade in my smoothie.
@kako Try Cilantro! It can't hurt - One whole bunch per day. Try it for at least a month and see if you find relief. I was skeptical. My Grover's was SEVERE and now it's like 99.9% gone. I was ready to go on accutane too. I was desperate and at my wits end until I found others who had success with the cilantro and decided I had nothing to lose.
kimass1- I am so grateful for you posting about using cilantro as a treatment for GD. 2 weeks of diligently consuming 1/2 bunch of fresh cilantro stems and leaves mixed with unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened probiotic yogurt and 2 pinches of Stevia artificial sweetener mixed in blender to make a smoothly I am at least 50% improved. I can even lay on my back with only minimal noticeable pain. If I just stayed at this level I would be satisfied.
I buy 4 bunches and keep it fresh all week by trimming 1 inch off of bottom, placing in a few inches of water in jar or glass and cover loosely with plastic bag and change water at least every 3 days. If left in plastic bag for a week it will get slimy.
Your earth clinic post gave me realistic expectations from bloggers as only about 50% reported success; some reported no change, others moderate improvement and some reported total success. One GD sufferer had his breakout going on 6 years and now is clear for the first time.
Researching about cilantro it is noted as a heavy metal detoxer cleanser and I have not studied what that means.
It seems one must continue with the fresh cilantro daily or GD will return. Those using cilantro tablets report limited success, significantly less helpful, yet I ordered cilantro capsules for traveling.
Thanks again for giving me this info! I'm back off roading with our Jeep club and this make my husband happy. When broken out the bouncing friction not only hurts my torso rash, but aggravates and triggers a worse breakout.
Some of you may remember my severe rashes, I've posted pics last year. Anyway, in regards to this post, I wanted to chime in saying, I happen to have cilantro growing in my herb garden, along with basil and parsley. I looked up nutrients, and seems both basil and cilantro are very similar...especially in the vitamins A, and K. Correct me, if wrong.
So, I'm thinking why not make a nice pesto sauce from basil?? We can always add some cilantro too. After seeing this thread...today, I took a bunch of cilantro from my garden, washed, and removed only the thicker stems...rough chopped it...put it in my favorite little bowl...topped it with fresh ground black pepper, sea salt, and a good dash of my absolute favorite fig balsamic vinegar. WOW!! I buy my balsamic vinegars from MT.DORA...the fig added that tiny sweetness and balanced out the cilantro. I do happen to like cilantro on its own. Those of you that may like a little cancel to the bitterness, may really like a fig balsamic. I also keep on hand, strawberry balsamic. But, please let me know what you think about basil for skin disorders.
