Anyone diagnosed with PMR after the Covid vaccine?

Posted by mellee @mellee, Feb 28, 2023

I received the Pfizer covid vaccine and had horrible joint pain 8/10 as a side effect. I reported it online. 7 months later I developed horrific joint pain in my shoulders, hips and knees(same pain after the vaccine, but worse). I was ultimately diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I wish there was a site to go to and report these things.
I am only 57 and was a runner most of my life up to the age of 51, so I am not in horrible shape for my age. The pain from that PMR was very disabling. I am now on Hydroxychloroquine 200 mg BID and Prednisone 10 mg a day. Not happy about having to take more medications.

In November 2021 I did my civic duty and I had the Pfizer booster shot.
5 days later I found myself paralyzed and unable to basically move as the pain was excruciating. I went to the ER, informed them that the only thing I did was to get the booster, mind you I never even had Covid. To make a long story "shorter", Doctor # 7 finally diagnosed me and through research; cone to find out that if you had the Pfizer shot and you are female, over 65, caucasian AND specifically of Scandinavian decent; there is a high probability of getting PMR. I thanked Pfizer for ruining my life. Pfizer is following my case but has yet to "apologize". Life has been hell, I also had 2 strokes twice. Prednisone & Humira but neither is making much difference. I tried all the other medications as well and did the Ivermectin protocol to no avail. So, my question is to find others who developed PMR from the shot.

After four Moderna Covid vaccine shots over a three year period, my PMR symptoms began in December last year. I didn’t get properly diagnosed until February 6 of this year. Excruciating pain because my prednisone dose is still in its initial “ figuring it out” stage. I may be the only one who thinks my PMR was caused by Moderna Covid vaccines, but I was the poster child of health before all this mess began.

I think the covid shots caused my PMR. I have no proof but it seems pretty suspicious to me.

I was also the poster child of health doing Triathlons at and before 70 years old and I got PMR without the shot. Absolutely the vaccine might have given you PMR but something else might easily have come along and giving it to you. when your immune system is taxed.. and you are one of the genetically susceptible ones.. you will get this or other immune diseases. I was hit by a car on my bike when I was 71 and a week later got a stomach virus and lo and behold PMR. that was 7 years ago. I am so grateful for the prednisone and have reduced it dramatically but still on it. I am sorry nothing is working for you. Did they start your at 15mg or 20mg and you VERY VERY gradually over a couple years tapered. ? My husband developed an even worse thing than PMR after his Vaccine OLP it is called but he is ok with it since Covid did not kill him. I hope you find some relief!! try Healthunlocked.com group for support.

I think the Pmr if it were from the shots would have shown up right away. At least that is what a doctor told me. No doubt the shots can cause it.. BUT so many other things. trauma and virus. or surgery and another illness on its heels. When the immune system is overwrought for whatever reason PMR comes . mostly to those who are 70 and older but sometimes to younger people. Hope you find some relief. It is a long and nasty haul. But keep doing all the healthy things from before!!

I believe you will find my previous comments regarding this matter in this thread. I also contracted PMR within a week after my second shot, but luckily, mine was very mild. I only hurt when laying down, so it took months to diagnose. I started with 10 mg. of Prednisone and managed to wean off in about a year. I am a registered dietitian and eat a primarily plant-based, organic whole foods diet and I attribute this to my mild case and quick recovery. Good luck in your recovery.

I was the poster child of good health. I'm very active, didn't get Covid and my job allows me to be outside most of the day. I also have horses and care for them daily.
I eat organic, my house is fully filtered and I avoid junk food. I'm not overweight...there was no reason aside from the shot to get suddenly so ill. Pfizer recognized the shot did me in.

Which shot did you have?

I'm convinced my last Pfizer shot gave me PMR. I had my sixth shot in May 2023, and within a month had started developing PMR symptoms. I wasn't actually diagnosed until late July, but was in misery until then. Now, almost a year later, I'm down to 10mg of prednisone from 15mg, and continuing to slowly taper. I think that sixth shot just tipped my immune system over the edge. I was also going through a lot of stress at the time, which probably didn't help.

I have also heard of people developing PMR after an actual bout of Covid.

Anyhow, I haven't had any more Covid vaccines -- I'm afraid to. I don't want to do anything that might cause a PMR flare because I want to get off the prednisone. Being on it for a year-plus worries me -- I've had to taper very, very slowly to avoid flares.

When I asked my doctor about a potential connection between Covid vaccines and PMR, he said it was possible, but it's too soon to say for sure. He said it'll take another 4-5 years before science can determine the full medical fallout from Covid and its related vaccines.

I’m curious did you have any other health issues before your Pfizer vaccine?
