Insomnia: Trying to wean of temazepam (restoril)

Now take 15mg/night for sleep. Anyone with experience weaning off this?

Hi all. I've been taking Temazepam for about 20 years. For the past few years, I've taken one 15mg pill at bedtime and another when I wake up in the middle of the night. If I don't wake up then it would obviously just be one. I've tried weening before but if I slept through without it, I would feel horrible the next day so, I decided to stay on it. Recently, however, I got a DUI and they included the Temazepam even though it was trace amounts. I'm also tired of going to my PCP for it so I'm tapering. I've been on 1/2 pill for about a week now and it sucks. I don't think I need a hospital bed but I feel very panicky. I almost feel too panicky to drive, which is ironic. Otherwise, I follow good sleep hygiene, take 3mg Melatonin with L-Theanine and valerian root. I'm still sleeping OK but just mostly feel horrible.

Hi How are you doing with your sleep . Have you had any memory issues ? I have a lot of anxiety due to my husband’s cancer and I can’t sleep . I feel so bad for you . I get anxious just reading this . How are you doing ? Is anything working ? Your doc prescribed for that long ? Sleep well. I have been on it for almost two years , starting not to work well. I take trazodone too.

Do you think the L-Theanine helps with your sleep? What dose do you take?

Hello, try Unisom with ingredient Doxylamine. You can buy it at Walggreens, Walmart or wherever....it's sold without a prescription but works pretty good. You could also try switching from Temazepam to Lorazepam. Lorazepam works well for sleep.

Hello. If you've been on a half pill for a week now... I would think that the "withdrawal" of cutting down to a half pill, will get better soon. I hope so anyway.... good for you for wanting to get off it. I take 1-1 1/2 mg. of Lorazepam nightly for sleep and do not want to stop taking it. Why would I want to stop? It really helps my sleep and my anxiety. Just hope it keeps working. I've only been taking it 8 months.

I have tapered from 30 mg of temazepam to 22.5 mg and am now taking 15 mg. As a chronic insomniac for many years, the journey has not been easy. I also take melatonin, lion’s mane and magnesium Glycinate. I hope to eventually be taking 7 mg of temazepam in the not so distant future.

I haven't started to quit yet but would like too. Does temazepam come in 22,5 mg pill? I am still on the 30's. I've been on sleep meds for over 20 years. I hope it works for you. I hate being on these things, especially with being older.

It does come in 22.5 mg as well as 30mg, 15 mg and 7.5 mg (I originally said 7 mg).

I agree, being on these pills as we age is not good. I am 70 yrs old and the pills can cause memory issues and worse.

Agreed. I’m going to be 73. These drugs do nothing for our well being

I feel your pain . I have been on it for many years . Have you had any memory issues ? Do you take it with anything else ?
