OB Nest - Telehealth in Pregnancy Care

Patients at Mayo Clinic have the opportunity to participate in an unique prenatal care model called OB Nest. This program incorporates telehealth visits into the routine pregnancy visit schedule decreasing the number of in person visits required during a patient's prenatal and postpartum care. Patients are given education on using a blood pressure cuff and fetal doppler unit at home and telehealth visits are conducted by video or phone at the patient's convenience. Mostly importantly, our prenatal schedule is based on our patient's preferences and can be adjusted to meet each person's needs. Read more about our OB Nest program during the covid-19 pandemic

Rochester's Bird Themed Team Care Model

The obstetrical team in Rochester has developed a new team care model in the clinic to help you stay connected with our providers. When you come in for your first prenatal visit, the physician, midwife, nurse practitioner, or resident that you see will be assigned to you as your primary OB provider. Each of our providers is part of a small multidisciplinary group of clinicians, nurses and desk operations specialists who will care for you throughout your pregnancy. This updated process allows us to get to know you and your family better during your childbirth journey. Each team has a bird name to help identify the individuals that make up that team. When you schedule your first appointment with us, you'll find out if you will be on the Owl, Loon, Sparrow, Bluebird, Penguin or Flamingo team!

Volunteer Doula Program

The Family Birth Center at Mayo Clinic in Rochester is now offering doula services for all patients at no-cost thanks to the local doula community. Doulas are trained professionals who provide continuous physical and emotional support to a mother and her family during childbirth to help achieve a positive birth experience. A doula can enhance the labor experience through compassionate, individualized care.

Doula services are available on a first come, first serve basis and are not guaranteed. Volunteer doulas through this program are not available for prenatal consults. Upon arrival on the family birth center, laboring moms can request to have a volunteer doula and they will be called to come in and support you.

If you are interested in having a doula free of charge to support you during labor, please contact our clinic for additional information! If you are interested in participating in our program as a volunteer doula, please contact us at rstvolunteermanagers@mayo.edu.
