The Mayo Clinic Center for Congenital Heart Disease has helped thousands of patients for over 60 years. Doctors use the most modern technology and treatment options to provide the best care for you or your child. The Adult Congenital Heart Disease service is now available at Mayo Clinic’s campuses in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota, and the Children Congenital Heart Disease service is available at the Mayo Euguenia Litta Children’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Center for Congenital Heart Disease provides multidisciplinary care. The team is comprised of doctors trained in congenital heart disease (congenital cardiologists), doctors trained in congenital heart surgery (congenital cardiovascular surgeons), nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed social workers and technicians. Other specialists are called upon for advanced care, including interventional catheterization, maternal fetal medicine, electrophysiology, hepatology and heart failure/transplant specialists when necessary. The multidisciplinary team collaborates to provide a personalized treatment plan for every patient.

The congenital cardiologists diagnose and treat the different types of congenital heart diseases. The congenital cardiovascular surgeons use their extensive experience in performing heart surgery to repair congenital heart defects. The cardiologists, nurse practitioners and nurses advise and educate patients about their heart disease and provide continuing care. Clinic nurses are available to answer questions and concerns by phone.

The Center for Congenital Heart Disease’s goal is to ensure that people born with congenital heart disease will live long healthy lives. This is accomplished through optimal care provided by medically trained professionals with special expertise in all congenital heart diseases.

Mayo Clinic cardiologist Heidi Connolly, M.D., introduces the Mayo Clinic Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic and team.
