Would you know if have infection?

I am by no means an expert in things medical, but my guess would be that the site, or the environs, near/about the pacemaker would be tender, sore, hot, inflammed, red....you'd know it because that would accelerate and get bad inside of maybe 48 hours. I think you have some other condition, and it would be worth a consultation....and I would be on it right away.

When you have a fever you should contact your doctors. How high was it? Minor flucations happen all the time at least for me but never get above 99. We do not have your medical and mental health history nor are medical doctors to be able to give you medical advice.

I have had a ICD/Pacemaker for over 20 years. When I first got mine I did experience a slight fever but right after not your 5 months ago. I was put in hospital and cultures taken to rule out infection. 5 Days later negative and released.

The wires can become infected as well as the device itself. I see another poster mentioned signs of infection to you. If you have any doubt about infection of our device or wires contact you medical providers. But your fever could be caused by many factors and nothing to do with your device and wires.

If you are having off and on temperature you should also contact your doctors. Infections, fevers, can be dangerous and best when caught early. If me and that is just my opinion based on my personal experience I would not hesitate, if was me, to contact my doctors.

Your doctors can go over the site and be able to guide you signs of infection. The wires are another matter. But having a fever that comes back and back should be looked at for causes as might have nothing to do with your device and wires.

Please contact your doctor regarding any unusual developments, including that low-grade fever. Thanks for all of feedback. FYI I ended up having a nasty UTI diagnosed in ER.On lots of antibiotics. I guess in old people infections can be dangerous. I try to avoid doctors, etc but sometimes I have to give in and listen to my body.

@acapsych Good! And you'll be back more and more frequently if my recent eight years with my dad is any indication. It's just the nature of the aging beast. Try to remember that these people aren't just doing this for the money and lifestyle. They were motivated to do through a lot of practical and stressful training before they were credentialed and licensed, and they've continued to do this for years in some cases. That should make you comfortable about the mindset of these professionals and their orientation to helping.............................you, when you present for care.
