Working a manual labor job with an ascending aortic aneurysm at 4.2cm.
Dr. Only gave me restrictions to not pick up anything over 100 lbs. I am 58 yrs. Old and in reasonably good shape, great BP, never smoked, type 2 diabetes for 16 years. Should I be lifting, tugging, pulling and straining and working 12 hour swing shift with this aneurysm?

Hello geraldhumphrey,
You might be interested in viewing some of the medical talks posted on aorticathletes.org. (or their FB page) as the exertion of manual labor can be similar to exertion from exercise. The main gist is not to do anything which causes you to strain, grunt, or hold your breath to complete an activity. This can cause your blood pressure to rise which is a risk for aortic dissection. I am 68y F with a 4.1 thoracic ascending aortic aneurysm and was told not to lift more than 40 lbs. I've continued to do my normal activities and exercises paying attention to breathing smoothly through all movement. Get good sleep and de-stress as much as you can. Best of luck in your job.
Thank you for the information.
