Where to stay on Mayo campus for a week after discharge from ICU

Posted by welcome @welcome, Oct 1, 2023

I will have open heart surgery to take out a TAVR heart valve. I do not want to fly home immediately. I want to stay in a medically supervised place for a week. Goes Mayo have such a place.

A good place to start is with a visit with Mayo social services. Very knowledgeable and can help you get in the right direction

Hello @welcome, and WELCOME! You've come to the right place to find all sorts of information about Mayo Clinic and @colleenyoung gave you a great start. I am not aware of any Mayo affiliated place that has medical supervision as a discharged patient, so hopefully Mayo Concierge can assist you with that. I had open heart surgery in Rochester and elected to stay for an additional four days just to be sure. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, directly across from the main entrance to St. Mary's and honestly, it could not have been better. I felt nervous leaving after surgery because I was so weak and anemic. But in retrospect, I think I would have been fine to fly home to California the day after discharge because I had my partner with me. He handled everything and I just had to walk here, sit there, and get in and out of the car or shuttle. Will you have help with you? That's super important to have support along side you to make it easier for you...
