What were your initial bladder cancer symptoms?

I'd like to know, especially from women, what your first symptoms were for bladder cancer. I'm also curious why blood in the urine can come and go - some days there and some not. Thanks very much.

Interesting that you do biweekly nivolumab. I am doing monthly treatments. It can also be submitted subcutaneously nowadays. However, Mayo has not mentioned that to me yet.

I am also doing immunotherapy monthly for a year. Nivolumab. Have a neobladder.

Monthly appears to be more common nowadays.

It is interesting that the two of you are both monthly. Is that your only immunotherapy drug? It is for me.

Yes. Mono therapy. Yervoy did not work out in clinical studies as combination therapy. It did for other malignancies. https://www.guoncologynow.com/post/nivolumab-ipilimumab-fails-to-extend-survival-rates

I thought I had a UTI but then started passing blood-tinged urine. That is when I went to my PCP who immediately ordered a CT scan which showed bladder cancer. I then had cystoscopy with removal of my tumor. I am now 2 years with this cancer, currently on Padcev and doing well except for aggravating peripheral neuropathy in feet and reduced grip strength in my hands.

Only had blood in my urine twice, right after each other, and took action right away.

Hemeturia, and urinary frequency

My first symptoms were a bit different than others.

The first sign was I started to pee brown. Called the nurse line (it was the weekend) and they said it was old blood. Never got a good reason of why. The nurse gave me antibiotic thinking I had an infection. That lasted almost a week. The following Saturday I passed a blood clot that was about the size of my pinky. I then started peeing red blood. No hesitation wife got me into the ER. After a bunch of tests, the blood was coming from the bladder and I had 3 growths in the bladder. I was referred to a Urologist who did the cystoscopy which showed cancer. Then did the Turbt which also showed cancer. I Just finished my 6 week BCG treatments.

Red blood in my urine that was pretty persistent. Drove myself to stop ER and after running blood tests and CT scan, essentially not able to give me a definitive answer but referred me to a urologist. Wasn't able to see him for 6 weeks as he was very booked up. Needless to say, I was quite nervous the whole time. He did determine it was bladder cancer and had two small cancerous tumors removed. Over the course of the next3 months, my bladder was not showing encouraging signs of healing. Last day of 2024 had a 5 incision surgery to reduce the bladder and remove my appendix which was inflammed and laying on on bladder. And during the 4months to this point I had a Foley catheter. Quite an experience but things are looking up after the six bcg treatments. Will be on an bcg maintenance program for 3 years. Praying to maintain cancer free!
