What sleep meds help you stay asleep?

I’m on a combo of Ambien and Seroquill. I knock out for exactly two hours and then. I’m just awake.

I'm going to try Quviviq. Does anyone have experience with that? I currently take Trazadone 75 mg. which only helps me sleep for 5 hours and is addictive.

@asl1940 I started taking quviviq 4 months ago. Im a lifelong insomniac but wont take addictive sleeping meds because they also build up tolerance. Quviviq has transformed my life. I was nearly always able to get to sleep.....my problem was waking up during the night and not being able to fall back asleep. Since I retired a couple of years ago I stay in bed until 10 or even 11 in order to get 6 or msybe near 7 hours total after maybe 11 hours in bed. With Quviviq I am getting at least 7 up to more thsn 8 hours when I am in bed 8.5 or 9 hours. I have a new life. The only problem is just recently I am experiencing headaches and occasional daytime drowsiness but i hope this will pass. I am on the 50mg dose as research shows the 25mg doesn't really work. It definitely isn't addictive ....I forgot to take it on 2 occasions before I fell asleep and both times I was simply back to my original difficulty of wsking during the night and not being able to go back to sleep. I didn't take the Quviviq when I woke up to avoid being drowsy in the morning.

@laurabamford4015 my cardiologist recommended trazodone but can’t prescribe it. My GP hasn’t gotten back to me about it.
What dose works for you?
Mirtazapine was just horrible!

@lynnann50
Sleep is essential!
50 mg Trazadone—One usually works but if I’m too wound up to fall asleep I take two=100mg.
I was in so much pain after my surgery I had to take three and then there was no guarantee I’d fall asleep. Ambien is à sure-fire drug but I am susceptible to addiction so I can’t take any addictive drugs.

@laurabamford4015 my biggest concern is next day hangover which was horrible with the lowest dose of mirtazapine for me.
I’ll contact my GP to get her to prescribe it. Hoping for good results. Thank you so much for your reply!

I tried so many different treatments after tapering off of Ativan and 7.5 mg of mirtazapine works fabulously for me! Groggy when I wake up but after years of struggling, I finally sleep through the night. It’s not a benzodiazepine so all my doctors (pcp, sleep dr) are comfortable with me being on it indefinitely.

I take 150mg. Trazodone and sleep through the night, about 7 hours. Why can't your cardiologist prescribe it?

Amitryptaline. It helps you stay asleep. You still have to practice good sleep hygiene to FALL ASLEEP, but once you are there, Ami helps you stay there.

@barbaradh Yes, one good side effect: More bladder control. I am not getting the sudden urges to pee, and can hold off alot longer. I only take 25 mg per night, which is considered a low dose.

Thanks, Judy. How long have you been taking it. Glad that you have that positive effect helping you.
