What now??

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Dec 28, 2024

I am a 77 year old retired female.

I had extreme side effects from statins, any kind any dose, Repatha and CoQ10 (my doctor said CoQ10 doesn’t do anything). Niacin is now found to increase the incidence of heart attack. (A metabolite of niacin (vitamin B3) was associated with elevated risk of heart attack and stroke, likely due to inflammation in arteries.)

My heart doctor dismissed me when I couldn’t tolerate those drugs with,” then, I have nothing for you.” I don’t think he believes me that those drugs make me bedridden and in terrible pain.

I eat heart healthy organic foods, maintain my weight, practice yoga, walk between 8,000-10,000 steps a day, do heavy yard work and am part of a volunteer group that picks up litter in my city. I plan to start a weight resistance program at the gym in January.

I struggle with sleep and am now using guided sleep meditations as sleeping medications didn’t work either, including a Rx for medical THC. I am concerned that my poor sleep may be affecting my heart although I am no longer an insomniac with the help of the guided sleep meditations.

I am seeing an acupuncturist for the first time today to discuss all this.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to stick to things that are good for my body. I do have a family history of heart disease on my father’s side.

Don’t listen to a cardiologist that says CoQ10 does nothing. It’s not just to accompany statins, it is a natural component of our metabolism and antiinflammatory.
Melatonin is antinflammatory and brain healthy.
I take turmeric and enjoy my dark chocolate after dinner.Current thinking is inflammation of our vascular endothelial lining is major cause of atherosclerosis.
Did your cardiologist bother to suggest coronary CT for
calcium score and carotid ultrasound. Have you checked
Cardiac HS CRP? You are doing everything else right
on your own initiative.

Thank you for that. I appreciate it. I work hard to help myself. No, my cardiologist, like he said, has nothing for me, but my internist will run those tests if I ask and I will. Thanks.
