Using sleep med in sleep study for twitches, acting out dreams, apnea?
I messaged the doctor asking if Dayvigo 5mg is allowed in a sleep study in case I have trouble sleeping - and if it's allowed, whether it's advised, taking into account whether or not it may affect results for what is being evaluated. Waiting for a reply. Sleep study staff had said to contact the dr about it. In the meantime, seeing what others' opinions are, based on sleep study experience including what their dr/staff said.
What I'm being evaluated for:
- For months, noticed some but not all nights, jaw closes during light sleep causing audible teeth click waking me up (I think maybe it's SRFMM, although not forceful and I don't bite my tongue). Of the 5 times I took Dayvigo, it seemed to bypass this issue, at least until morning when it may reappear during light sleep, so unsure if this is a problem if being investigated.
- For over a decade, up to several times yearly, waking while acting out angry dreams (punching/kicking bed and/or yelling / finishing an argument I started in dream). I mentioned this to dr only because he asked, but I read this is normal if infrequent and if I wake during it. Also it seems less frequent than when it first appeared. Nonetheless I see he put in the notes to use arm lead for RBD and evaluate for REM sleep without attonia.
- I assume I'm also being screened for sleep apnea. I often snore on my back but I haven't noticed other symptoms. To my knowledge I've never woken up gasping for air / etc (I haven't noticed this, nor has my gf).

Having had several sleep studies over the years, my doctor always tells me to try and do the study with no medication on board. Gives them the clearest picture of what the body is doing.
I have used a cpap for 15 yrs. Agree with the other post, do not take a sleep medication before a sleep study.
I currently drink Chamomile tea before bed. This guarantees I sleep soundly, rarely wake in the middle of the night.
I have taken magnesium and even melatonin, over time, these OTC aren’t as effective. Tea for me is better.
During sleep study they will screen for PLMS (Periodic Limb Movement Syndrome), which involves the "spasm-ing" of arms & legs, while sleeping, & keeps you awake. I was prescribed Clonazepam, which works well for me. PLMS is a seizure disorder. Good luck!
