Has anyone been using Tymlos?

Has anyone been using Tymlos? I received devastating news that my bone density score is 4.6, much worse than my age of 72. Recommendation is Tymlos.

@me75

I’m having a large extensive back surgery September 21 so right now I’m taking 80 mg of Tymlos until I get the Forteo . I noticed with Tymlos I have headaches , weight gain and I hurt more than ever.I’m willing to put up with it so I can build up my bones for the surgery so tired of hurting all the time . Asking for prayers cause I’m 75 years old

@me75, I’ve been on Tymlos since June and have gained weight as well. Particularly belly fat. I’m glad to see that I am not alone with this issue. I contacted the Radius clinical coordinator to ask if weight gain was reported during clinical trials and she said no. So she will report it. Are you craving “junk” food? Do you feel hungry most of the day?

I didn’t realize forteo has fewer side effects. I need to learn more about that.

Good evening @ferrer1105

It sounds like you are ready to begin the Tymlos journey. I see that @wndyshores has responded to you about the "newest" bone-building medication being Evenity. Tymlos followed Forteo. I wish that the "click" apparatus had been available for the two years I was on Tymlos. Still, I had no side effects and the results were positive.

Please continue to be a "chat" member. I would like to know about your experience.

May you be safe, protected and free from inne and outer harm.
Chris

@candy209 Tymlos was suggested to me due to fewer side effects with adjustable dosing. I tried hard to get on Forteo, years ago. I saw an immunologist to get desensitized and spent a day getting 1/4,1/2, 3/4 and full doses with lung and heart tests along the way. I even used my kid's insulin syringe to measure out a 10% dose and my heart still went crazy, I was very woozy and faint, and short of breath.

We are all different. But I have never heard that Forteo has fewer side effects. That statement was from a poster's doctor and we don't know the source. If you are already on Tymlos, I hope you can stay on it. The two meds are very similar in how they work.

Thank you Windyshores.
Hope you are doing well. I was just reading some earlier posts and I am all in on tymlos. They delayed my start due yo some elevated kidney labs from cr contrast. But looks like I am clear to start finally. I’ll start after our trip in a few weeks. Birthday and anniversary trip to the beach. I can’t wait:)

@candy209 did you have IV contrast? i just did oral contrast for the first time and it affected my kidneys. It made me really sick. I have to wait for Reclast now. But I thought Tymlos was fine with lower kidney function. I am taking it with low kidney function! Have fun on your trip!

Hi
Yea it was the contrast and I felt sick for several weeks. Just now feeling better. It’s good to know that tymlos didn’t bother your kidneys.
I’ll message you when I start my tymlos. I am a nervous wreck but will get my head turned around on my trip and come back strong and ready to go 🙂

I am 77 years old and am following people who are taking Forteo which my doc wants me to go on. I am finally feeling better than I have in years because I almost died a year ago. I live alone because of the death of my husband a month ago. I just don't want to take anything that rocks my boat... don't want a headache, nausea, hair falling out, etc. I just want to be careful and hope and pray I don't fall..... am I crazy???

@bjmullins the problem is that you can fracture with unwise movements, a cough, a rough hug, depending on your bone density and quality. Fractures permanently affect quality of life.

As I have written, I could not tolerate Forteo but was able to tolerate Tymlos by starting at a low dose and letting my body adjust as I moved up on the dose. (The Forteo pen, to my knowledge, does not have an adjustable dose.)

But everyone is different!

@candy209 Sorry you went through that but it is reassuring that you felt sick for weeks from contrast and are now feeling better. I am rarely scared but I have been feeling like I was poisoned! And yes my kidney function suffered. My nephrologist said oral versus IV was fine but it wasn't. I didn't even need the darn scan!!
