MRI is painless and a scan similar to CT. Please do get one for your peace of mind.

Thank you for your encouragement. It’s the claustrophobia part that freaks me out and the head cage. I should puruse doing being put under. Then have the little procedure done to fix it and then not have to take the gaba for that.

Hi. I have suffered from trigeminal Neuralgia now for about 12 years. Tried different medications which don't seem to help but the TN does reduce to a managble level on it's own for months at z time. I have now had it bad since January struggling to eat, talk, drink and walk on hard surfaces some time. Doctors trying some new meds while I' wait for a referral ( up to 21 weeks they say) to neurology. My problem started after a dental crown. Has anyone ever had the same problem as I'm now getting to the point where I'm convinced removing that crow may help.

There is a Trimengial Neuralgia Support Group on Facebook that has 20,000 members and people are super helpful. I'd recommend posting this question there. From what I've read, doing dental work does not help TN. Good luck wrestling this TN monster.

My TN type 2 began about 4 years ago with pressure pain on my right ear. Two years ago it expanded to the right side of my face including ear, nose and eye as well as head. Persistent pressure and numbness at this time. Ordinarily, Lyrica works along with avoidance of groups. It is activated by wind, touching, etc MRIs of brain indicate all is normal.

Please join the online group on FB. Many people on there have what you post herpetic neuralgia. Talk about total pain. I do know many people have had success with surgery. It depends how bad you feel and how long you have had it. Easily googled. It's nice to banter with people who completely understand. Best of luck and feel better.

My Dr prescribed oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) It helped almost immediately

I have been suffering with right side face and jaw pain, numbness sometimes like electric shocks.
Kindly help me.

Try MBB injections in occipital nerves left n right side if that helps you can do a radio frequency ablation to your occipital nerves for lasting relief. See a endoscopic spine surgeon only

Thank you so much. How long have you had tn2. Please don't get affected me asking you a lot just figured out what I have. It seams like it progresses very quickly. Do you have ringing in your ears? I am very scared that is why I am asking you a bunch of questions.

Hi. No I don't having ringing in my ears. I think TN is different for everyone try not to worry mine has come and gone for periods of time over 12 years.
Iv had it 12 years. Im just trying to find out if anyone knows off different treatments as this time it's lasting longer and its the right side of the face that's sensitive to touch or movement. Sitting completely still the pain goes.

They kept telling me (3 different doctors) that I had trigeminal neuralgia and treating me for that. Turns out it's supraorbital neuralgia. Once I was treated for that, my pain is almost completely gone.

That's interesting. I'll research that find out what the difference us and make a note of it for when I get my neurology appointment.
Thank you

Did you have "ice pick " sensation in your ear? Did you ever have sudden weakness all over and unable to open your eyelids completely,
These are my symptoms, saw my ENT yesterday and ear is fine but he mentioned this particular diagnosis.

Sorry to hear of the icepick sensation. I hear that type of sensation may be common in
Type 1 TN.

TN affects the whole of the right side of my face, like a dull headache. It affects my eye and lid as well as my ear. MRI indicates nothing abnormal. All else has been ruled out, so it may be TN2.
