Hello everyone!
Many events are held each year and many news stories are published that may interest the transplant community. We thought it might be nice to let people know of some of these events and stories, even if they may not apply to everyone. In this discussion, feel free to post events and news stories that might be of interest to transplant patients, caregivers, or donors.

@jolinda I thought the laws had changed about excluding donors from health insurance discrimination. When my daughter was pushing to be a living donor for me that was one of my concerns but I was sure that sometime since then I had heard that was no longer true.

Turns out that was for health insurance but life insurance was not included.

2 ReactionsTo all I did check with my prescription plan express script which is Thursday Tricare for life that I get with Medicare part b and I too am a bit young for Medicare but if your declared disable after 2 years you get Medicare no matter what age. So it seems I'm not eligible for the meds thru Medicare but I don't pay much anyway. Thru Tricare express script it's only 10.00 for 90 day supplies. So I haven't bothered trying to call Medicare as to why I'm not eligible as a Heart transplant but I do know it seems for a few government thinks being in renal failure gets you things a lot earlier.

It's quite the line up of speakers over the week from April 17-23. And it's virtual. So people can attend from the comfort of their own home and attend the sessions that interest them.

1 ReactionI've been to this conference in person and it's full of great topics that would interest a patient or caregiver. Patients had nothing but great things to say about it in the past, if that helps anyone make a decision to spend their time on this during these spring days ahead.

2 ReactionsHello everyone! I wanted to let you know that Donate Life has released the images and theme for 2022 Donate Life Month in April. This year the theme is "Bee a Donor" and the image is beautiful and attached to this note. For the last 2 years the transplant centers have struggled to celebrate Donate Life month due to COVID and our inability to gather people together. This year appears to be no different. Even though cases are falling, it would still be bad judgement to organize group gatherings on a transplant topic.
What activities have you done for Donate Life month? How do you think transplant centers and others should celebrate the amazing gift of organ donation in April this year?

3 Reactions@keggebraaten My husband and I have participated in several Donate Life events. I particularly enjoy the large outdoor events that include walks of different lengths, with teams of people representing different transplant centers/groups. There is a wonderful energy as people from so many walks of life are able to see, in-person, how transplants and organ donation affect so many others, from family members to medical professionals.
Unfortunately, I think it is still too soon to promote in-person events unless we can be assured of minimal contact and exposure to COVID, which can't be promised! Too bad there couldn't be a media special like the Stand Up to Cancer specials, or somesuch event!
