Transition after transplant: Anyone afraid getting back to normal life
Hello,
I am post transplant. Had a liver transplant on January 13th of this year. I have been given the ok to join my regular life activities but am having a very tough time. I am afraid to start getting back to a normal life. Everytime I schedule or make a commitment to play golf or just visit friends I always cancel last minute. Is this normal and how can I start to feel comfortable and grt out. Thank you in advance for all your help. Also is there a live chat or web conference that liver transplant survivors can attend and discuss their issues?

In terms of going back to play golf, I would think that like any sport that we quit doing for a period of time, the body needs to get conditioned to those movements again, muscles that have not been used atrophy. How about if you develop a routine that mimic what you will do on a golf course - torso rotation right and left, picking stuff off the ground(the ball) and other movements you will do. Start with a mild version of it, without the weight of a club, also carrying a golf bag with just a couple of clubs - a subdued mini version of playing a round, reintroducing your body to the sport. You haven't forgotten how to play but your musculature has. Introduce it back gently and listen to your body. It hurts? go back in intensity a step or two. One step back before 2 steps forward. You can do it. Set up a goal of doing some mini golf (yes, boring, I know) as an intermediate step. Let us know how you progress, yes?
