Tonmya is a game changer for me!

Posted by Beejenigma @beejenigma, Dec 26, 2025

Just got an RX for the new drug, Tonmya. It is amazing. My sleep has completely changed now. Used to have chronic insomnia. I would take arthritis strength tylenol, 300 mg gaba, 8 mg LDN, 10 mg THC and sometimes even .5 alpraz to go to sleep and I would still not get to sleep for 3 hours. I would frequently wake up around 3! Now I am sleeping within an hour and sleeping until 7 or 8 a.m.! See if you can get an RX for it. I don't know if this is going to last but it is great.

My prescription comes in today and I can't wait to start. The normal flexeril gives me the worst dry mouth and stomach upset... I'm hoping for less side effects from Tonmya. I'm in 3mg LND now and that was a huge game changer as well. More energy, less pain. I have to force myself not to go out and do everything and over do it.
The problem will be the price of Tonmya. I did get the savings card thru the company which gives me two months at $0 copay.. but after that its $900, which the saving card helps with 500. But that's still 400 a month! Hoping to get insurance to kick in once a try it and see how it works for me.

@hendriksgal It's terrible that drug companies charge such exorbitant costs. I wish insurance companies would start covering it and LDN, which I take for my fibro.

@daisy17 What is Tonmya? I have seen it mentioned here before. Is it a benzo? For pain? Sleep?

@nannybb Tonmya is a reformulation of the muscle relaxant cyclobenzaprine (aka Flexeril). It contains a lower dose and is taken subliminally rather than as a pill you swallow. By reformulating the drug, the drug company can charge lots more money. I did a google search and found: "Tonmya has a wholesale acquisition cost of $1,860 per month for 60 tablets, which will be reduced to $930 for older patients and those with mild liver impairment." The cost of cyclobenzaprine 10 mg can vary, but without insurance, it typically ranges from about $4.77 for a few tablets to around $20 for a 30-tablet supply. When I have a fibre flare, I take a 5mg tablet of cyclobenzaprine before bed and it helps with sleep and pain.

An article by Pradeep Chopra, MD (a Harvard-trained pain medicine specialist with over 25 years of experience treating complex chronic pain and multisystem disorders.) has this Summary: "In summary, sublingual cyclobenzaprine (Tonmya) is essentially a repackaged low‑dose formulation of cyclobenzaprine, marketed as a novel drug through its patented delivery system. Its pharmacokinetic differences are small, its clinical benefit is modest and comparable to existing oral formulations, and its unique adverse effects may outweigh the theoretical advantage of reduced metabolite formation. Clinicians should therefore critically evaluate manufacturer claims and consider whether simple, low‑dose oral cyclobenzaprine would provide equivalent benefit at far lower cost.”

In summary, the report concludes that Tonmya’s sublingual delivery offers only minor pharmacokinetic differences compared to oral cyclobenzaprine. Despite claims of reduced metabolite formation, the active metabolite norcyclobenzaprine remains pharmacologically relevant and may contribute to therapeutic effects. The analysis shows that dosing, rather than delivery route, largely explains any variation in drug exposure. It highlights that low-dose oral cyclobenzaprine already achieves similar outcomes and underscores that Tonmya’s modest pain reduction and unique oral adverse effects do not justify its higher cost or novelty. The conclusion advises clinicians to weigh claims critically and consider low-dose oral formulations as cost-effective alternatives.”

However, some have commented that it does help them more than the generic of Flexeril.

@daisy17 Thamk you. That was a lot of work. I appreciate it. I have insurance, but United Healthcare is refusing more and more to help with pharmaceuticals. And I pay the highest premium. It's become a joke.

@daisy17 I don't mean to argue back, but... watch the Youtube documentary about it. It stays in the NORcyclobenzaprine form. Big difference.

@ericamonique Did you try arguing with the doctor? If they would prescribe Tonmya, what's the difference then in prescribing cyclobenzaprine as they are the same drug! I would see another doctor, go back to your regular doctor. It helps me sleep but didn't help much with pain as I didn't take it during the day because it can make you sleepy.

My doctor is always hesitant to renew my prescription due to my age (75) because they are worried it could contribute to falls. I have no risks for falls other than my age, so that is annoying. I take this shortly before bed and, at such a low dose with only one pill per day, it never makes me dizzy or unsteady on my feet.

Please ask your doctor about low-dose naltrexone. That has helped me the most. I had to see a pain clinic to get my prescription but now my regular doctor prescribes it. I take a 4.5mg tablet after breakfast. It must be compounded at a special pharmacy and isn't covered by insurance. I think it costs me $50-60 a month. There are many articles on-line about it, here's one: https://www.fibromyalgiafund.org/giving-ldn-your-best-shot/

Good luck.

@daisy17 I agree. LDN helped me much more than cyclobenzaprine and it doesn't have any side effects with falls. The maintenance dose is usually 4.5mg/day. You have to start at a low dose and build up to 4.5mg/day. Then it can take several weeks to notice improvement. Most people have no negative side effects (I haven't noticed any.). My cost is $115 for a 90 day supply.

@hendriksgal Don't know of any. Maybe ask your dr. I am no longer taking it because it caused sores under my tongue

@jjmarshall sounds amazing! So glad for you. im sorry i can’t remember (brain fog), didn’t someone in the group say that Tonmya is actually Cymbalta and something else? I went off Cymbalta a year ago with bad withdrawal and long term after effects. It worked great at first then after over 13 years of taking it I was still having pain and made me very fatigued. wouldn’t want to ever go back on Cymbalta. Just dealing with the pain etc. with other alternatives. I still have pain, etc. either way. I was also worried about weight gain that was causing other health problems. But don’t know if Cymbalta caused the weight gain.

@jeannesf1 Tonmya is a sublingual form of cyclobenzaprine. The brand name for the oral form is Flexeril. It is a muscle relaxer. It is not Cymbalta.
