Today's NY Times friendship/love story.... and pancreatic cancer

Posted by wjk @wjk, Oct 13, 2023

In this morning's NY Times there is a piece titled "Jennifer Graham likes Jennifer Graham". It's about two women who share the same name and become friends. It's also a short meaningful tale of some aspects of pancreatic cancer.

Thanks for making me aware. Just now I attempted to copy and paste the story without success.

Thanks for posting the NY Times story. Having survived stage IV pancreatic cancer, I began mentoring pancreatic cancer patients for many years now. A number of times I traveled to meet patients to help them navigate and started a friendship with patient and family members.

A few years ago I read a patient story on #LetsWinPC.org of a patient with a similar gene mutation and was being treated with the same drug I had received years earlier in a clinical trial. We made contact and became fast and good friends and are in weekly contact. We have also gotten together several times and we started a collaboration of helping pancreatic cancer patients from around the world. Below is the link to our story.

@michaelhunn7474 - Here are two more recently printed personal account articles regarding individual journeys. Though neither is pancreatic cancer specific, each is poignant in its own way. I'm pretty sure these two articles can be accessed online without a newspaper subscription, unlike the NY Times article above.

My library allows borrowers to log on to the NYT for three days at a time, with unlimited repeats. Check to see whether your local library offers that, or will allow you to access articles thru ProQuest or a similar database.

I'm going to try to attach the png that I took of the article -- not sure whether it will work.

Such a beautiful story. Cancer helps us remember that just being there is a gift.
I have friends that only call. Friends that never mention it. Then friends that just come over when I am home to sit and talk . That time is so special. As hard as we work to distract ourselves; focus on our jobs, family, and friends-we are different once we join the cancer club.
I spend every morning with scripture and quiet. Then it’s off to the races but always margin built in to check on someone. No procrastination anymore!
