Problems months after colon resection surgery: What Helps?

Posted by joyce1 @joyce1, Feb 25, 2017

Three months after colon resection I had a severe stomach cramp this morning and have not had a bowel movement yet. This is the first time this has happened. So far things have been good.

I'm 44 years old . had an colon resection done about 2 months ago.. Everything was doing GRT.. Normal bv. Pain from surgery gone.. Woke up this morning with a sharp pain.. Almost like the first time.. Before they told me I had diverticulitis.. And removed the bad section.. Pain little lower than the first time.. But same.. No where near any of the surgery spots.. Should I get chk..

@swatson, I believe you should make an appointment to find out the cause of the pain. Is the pain severe?

I also struggle with ongoing constipation which started right before Christmas. my diet is primarily plant based and lots of fiber
My doctor suggested I try a low residue diet which was difficult for me but I gave it a whirl
Didn't help at all
So I am back on my healthy diet and find that drinking lots of water and staying active and moving really helps
And when all else fails try a dose of miralax
Fortunately things are getting better for me
Good luck

Hi Joyce,
I'm so sorry to hear that you are experiencing such pain 3 months after your colon resection. I'm bringing @starrlight @sallyg @nannytart and @travelgirl into this discussion to see if they have some advice to share. It is painful to not have had a bowel movement. How long has it been since you've had one? Are you drinking plenty of fluids?
