Thoughts about going to the gym and COVID exposure
I'm wanting to join a YMCA here to help me with exercising -- both in terms of people support/examples and structure: If I have to actually go somewhere it means I'm more likely to do what I went there to do (exercise)... BUT, I have avoided COVID so far by vaccinations and fairly consistent masking which I still do, past the pandemic, in public places. Hard to mask while exercising, though. What do you think about the pros/cons of exercising in a gym??? Thank you! (Am 78 yo, mod level COPD, good O2 levels, 50% lung capacity approx.). On nebulized Arformoterol.

@capnjack I wasn't clear that I assumed you were working w/a real 'person' as a coach but that I wanted to be sure that I wasn't tricked into an AI coach ... Thanks for the excellent suggestion about this kind of relationship:help. I'm mostly very independent and self-motivating, but with COPD I could definitely use some coaching 🙂
@mersterling The online link I sent you is NOT the V.A. connection, but just one of several excellent "rehab at home" videos available on YouTube. The great part about "participating" with the YouTube program is that when I run out of breath, I can just pause the video, catch my breath, hydrate, whatever, and then pick it up again!
I will check it out -- most likely next week as I'm still in the process of moving from one apt. to another and it has been very very exhausting. Am beginning to reach out, though, to people with similar health issues so that I can, perhaps, improve my quality of life. Which isn't terrible to begin with, but I don't see much positive ahead at this point, so ... Thanks for clarifying about the link. I assume you searched w/something like COPD rehab at home for videos?
I personally would stay far away. My Past Personal trainer bragged about having Covid every Christmas for the past two years. You can guess what happened to me on his third Christmas. I spend eight days in intensive care with my first and only case of Covid, nearly lost my life and slowly after one and ahalf years I'm regaining my normal abilities. Keep wearing your mask whenever possible and wash your hands more than Pontius Pilot. Take care
@zorro12345 I realize that those of us with respiratory illnesses are somewhat in the minority, I guess, in terms of who goes to the gym. I appreciate your input and agree with you that COVID it's nothing to be frivolous about in terms of taking care of ourselves and others, hopefully to prevent it.
