Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and a colonoscopy
I am inquiring about people's experience that have been diagnosed with a thoracic aortic aneurysm and have underwent a colonoscopy.
My concern lies with the fact that during a colonoscopy the vagal nerve is impacted and this can directly impact heart rate and blood pressure impeding the aorta.
I understand this is a rare complication but I was wondering the experiences people have had and any precautions their physicians might of advised.
To be extra careful, I am having the colonoscopy at the hospital instead of the outpatient clinic but was wondering if there is anything else I should consider.
Thank you

I didn't know I had an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm but still had a colonoscopy while I had one and there was no issue. There was no mention of that being and issue when I still had the aneurysm.
After my surgery, I now have to take antibiotics if I have one but that is concern over the material they replaced my root and ascending aorta.

1 ReactionI have a thoracic aortic aneurysm (ascending). The gastroenterologist required a written clearance from my cardiologist before proceeding with my colonoscopy. Cardiologist did not have concerns with the procedure and provided the clearance without conditions. No complications during my colonoscopy.
