This and That and Talk - My Transplant
As our Mayo Connect community grows, I am constantly meeting organ transplant members on a wide variety of forums with a wide range of issues that are not directly transplant specific. However, because we are all transplant recipients, we have a special connection: a unique journey and best of all - a new life! We don't always need help or advice. Many times we just want to chat with someone like us! That is my purpose in starting This and That and Talk.
Drop in and say 'Hi'. You are welcome anytime.
What do you want t to talk about? What words can you offer to someone who is on the journey? Do you have any questions for another recipient?

@hopeful33250 Teresa, the pool is the thing I use most at my club, it is essential for me with my knees. Today I go in a little while for Pilates and then I will do the pool after that. I like the pool because I can do it vigorously making it aerobic. I got new hearing aids in the winter and they are high tech. I can stream the music on my iphone to the aids so I am jogging up and down the pool in time to whatever is playing. It really helps to make time pass more quickly. I do not submerge my head of course.

@hopeful33250 Thanks Teresa. I have no concerns about tomorrow, it is a routine check up and other than the minor complications caused by the immunos I am great, thankfully.

@contentandwell I love the pool for the same reason, my knees! That hearing aid is quite incredible if you and stream music to the aids. I'm impressed! Teresa
@contentandwell Sounds like a good plan! Teresa
@hopeful33250 They really are nice, very high tech and the music makes the water jogging go by faster. I know I tend to vary my movement depending on the beat of the music and I hope no one is watching, they might think I am really odd. My son is so funny, he says he would love to see that! He just might get the chance when we go away together in the fall. I told him I didn't think I would do my water walking/jogging in a condo pool but he said why not, he will do it next to me!
The phone goes right into my hearing aid too so when I have it by the pool I know when it rings and I can go over to where it is and answer it -- I could hear someone talking but they would not be able to hear me. I bought a little water case for the phone that floats if it should fall in.

@contentandwell Isn't technology great! Teresa
@hopeful33250 Yes Teresa, technology really is great. We often wonder how we managed with the navigation systems in our cars, particularly when away somewhere.
I would imagine that there must be bluetooth ear buds that can do the same thing. I have never looked into that, I wear big over the ear headphones when I want them. The music reproduction is better with them so they have not become obsolete since getting the new hearing aids.

@contentandwell - so nice to see a photo of you, or is it a new photo? It helps me remember who I'm talking with when I can visualize their face, especially since we have never met. Anyway...I always find myself telling friends who are not used to chronic and/or complicated health issues, when they are frustrated with doctors, that being a doctor is as much an art as a science. What works for one person does not work for another, doses need to be adjusted after you give them time to work, and there is often more than one type of medication or treatment option to choose from. All that means that you must have confidence in your physician or your outcome will not be optimal so sometimes switching providers or getting a second opinion is necessary IF you have the mindset that there is rarely just one right way to approach many health issues. I like your reasoning of why they call medicine a "practice" too so I might add that in my spiel when the time comes. I guess, for the most part, I have been blessed with great medical facilities and doctors so I realize that medicine is not black and white. Although this can be unsettlingly that is why you need specialists (doctors can't be expected to know everything), need to trust your doctor, do your own research, be an advocate for yourself, and follow all instructions (i.e. be a good patient).
@contentandwell - we have had a wonderful experience with a VRBO. I too was hesitant because I did not want to cook on vacation but we all chipped in (nothing else on our to do list like at home) and it was much more relaxing, we saved money, and ate healthier. Also, we visited better because we had a family room to hang out in vs. a hotel room which is not conducive to board games, conversation etc. I don't think I'll do another hotel for a long vacation again.
@contentandwell - Sounds like you have an awesome son!!!
