Testing before and during fosamax (alendronate) after Tymlos
I am finishing Tymlos and will be going on alendronate (fosamax) instead of reclast. Did your doctors order dexa before starting alendronate? Also CTX and P1NP? Any other tests?
I can order the CTX and P1NP on my own but need a doctor’s order for the dexa. I was just curious what was typical? Also testing while on alendronate. Yearly dexa? CTX and P1NP?

1 ReactionCould you share how to obtain a blood test without a doctor's order? Does this depend on the state where you live or the facility where the blood test will be drawn?
Thank you!

I’m not sure if it depends on the state or not. @gently and I believe @mayblin had posted awhile ago that you can order labs through Jason Health labs and I believe they send you to Quest and may be cheaper than ordering through quest or labcorp.
I live in Arizona and cannot order through Jason health labs but can through Sonora Quest.
If you self order, insurance will not cover the cost. It would be self pay.

Oh, you can buy CTX and P1NP the best price is at Jason Health.
Item code Item Name Item Price
qt16609 Procollagen Type I Intact N Terminal Propeptide $80.00
qt17406 Collagen Type I C-Telopeptide (CTx) $50.00
qt34604 Lipoprotein (a) $35.00
Lab Collection Fee $18.00
Grand Total $183.00
Kind of pricy out of pocket.
The endocrinologist I see orders them every three months, but even so I buy more sometimes.

4 ReactionsI completed Tymlos regime Sept 2022 - Aug 2024. After getting DEXA and blood test (CTX & P1NP) started on Fosamax. At one year all markers were good so continuing with Fosamax. My insurance pays for DEXA evry two years, hence didn't have DEXA in 2025. My annual Endo appt is in Oct. 2026, when I will repeat DEXA and CMP, Lipid Profile, and CTX + P1NP.
@tillymack
I'm going to reply to myself after a quick Google search.
People in Maryland can order their own lab tests without a doctor's order, often called direct-to-consumer (DTC) or patient-authorized testing. Companies like Labcorp OnDemand, QuestHealth, and services like Request A Test allow residents to purchase tests directly online and visit local labs for blood draws.
Key Details on Self-Ordered Testing in Maryland:
Legal Standing: A 2019 Maryland law (HB 526) allowed for at-home kits and direct access to tests for conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and STDs.
Process: Individuals choose their tests online, pay for them directly, and receive results via a secure, confidential portal.
Types of Testing: Options range from routine wellness panels to specific, in-depth blood work.
Limitations: While available, these services generally do not accept health insurance, requiring out-of-pocket payment.

2 ReactionsWould your doctor interpret the results if they had not ordered these blood tests?
@tillymack
Unfortunately, no. I relied on members here to help interpret.
