I posted a couple of links for you to take a look at. I know that TAVR has been the mode of surgery for aortic valve replacement for past several years, and it is done through the femoral artery like a heart cath. It used to be done open heart, bypass, respirator in the past, but it seems most are done trans-catheter, no respirator needed. Have you talked to your doctor about the procedure? They would be able to confirm the method they plan. If you type in TAVR in the search area above at the top of the page you will find dozens of posts related to aortic valve replacement. When is your procedure scheduled?

They sure don't! I apologize for that...I'm kind of non-techy. I will try again...

I hope these work! If not, then I will have to go get help, but in the meantime, type TAVR in the search area and tons of information will come up that may be helpful to you.
You see your doctor today, correct? I hope you get some answers about TAVR vs open heart replacement...

Did not really get to many answers, they are transferring me over to the cleveland clinic to a surgeon that does this all the time. They are supposed to call me soon, today I hope.

The Cleveland Clinic is one of the top hospitals in the world for heart procedures, just as is the Mayo Clinic. You will be in great hands there. That must be a relief of sorts, knowing you are getting to one of the top heart hospitals...but also you may be afraid of what you will be told. Mayo Connect is here for you, so feel free to share. Connect is patients sharing with patients and it is amazing how comforting that can be when you may feel like you are so alone. Take care @mikeyingst, I hope you get the information you need.

Why have the Clinic Doctors recommended surgery ? Was it based solely on a an
Angiogram ? There's a lot of literature out there that questions the need/benefits.
Instead of worrying, please do some research of your own. Maybe second opinion?

Sorry, didn't see the date. The comments still pertain, however.

I have to have an aortic valve replaced, will I still be on the ventilator when I wake up? Is it full open heart surgery or is it manually invasive.

Jump to this post

No you will not be on a ventilator. I had my aeortic valve replaced in 6/23 got out of surgery moved to ICU were the tubes were removed. I woke up not to long after that I was walking in the hall. GOOD LUCK keep your positive attitude everything will be ok.

I had emergency triple bypass open-heart surgery one year ago. It was no picnic but it saved my life. I had an excellent medical team at a world class hospital for this type of surgery. To your point re: post-surgery pain; yes there was pain but it was kept tolerable and manageable by my after care ICU team. I walked one day after surgery and was discharged on the fourth day. Now fully recovered and grateful. All the best.

P.S
