Sterilizing a spacer used with inhaler

Posted by paxmundi @paxmundi, 2 days ago

I am just starting on MAC treatment and my doctor wants me to use a spacer with the inhaler before I take Arikayce. I have a compact space chamber by Medical Developments International and I want to know how any of you sterilize your spacer if you use one.

Many thanks in advance.

@scoop Yes, the Vortex spacer survives boiling. When you cannot inhale slowly enough to avoid a squeak, it is timee to replace. Mine last about 6 months with weekly boiling.

@sueinmn Sue, do you know if custom mouth guards (for teeth grinding at night) survive boiling? I don't wear one, but my dentist suggested I wear one at my last appointment.

@kathyjjb No, boiling is not an option. Years ago I soaked mine every few days in 3% peroxide, cleaned with non-abrasive toothpaste in between. Now I clean my apnea mouthpiece with denture tablets, and weekly peroxide soak.

@sueinmn Thanks Sue! If I decide to get fitted, I'll use 3% peroxide.
