Statins combined with niacin

Posted by SteveSH @steveny9, Nov 23, 2022

I have been reading that Statins combined with niacin can reduce the risk of PN. And is an overall a preventive for heart disease.
Is anyone taking statins and niacin in combination?

You must be really happy. Kudos for you. A lot of work and it has paid off.

Is a Fasting Lipid (Cholesterol) Screening the same as a Lipid panel test?

What did you do to bring down the glucose? I have started trying intermittent fasting to reduce my glucose. As well as, reducing food choices that will increase glucose. I have not re-tested but will go for a A1C December 23. In 2021 it was 5.3 and then in 2022 of June it went to 6.0 and then back down to 5.5 in August.

Last question: if you are not taking statins how are you bringing down your Cholesterol? Through diet and exercise?

Good morning Steve @steveny9, Thanks for asking that question. You helped me with my daily quest of trying to learn one new fact each day 🙂

"What is the difference between a fasting and nonfasting lipid panel?
Nonfasting samples are more convenient for patients, and there is no appreciable difference between fasting and nonfasting results for total cholesterol or high-density lipoprotein cholesterol."

I think what has helped me the most bringing down my glucose numbers is intermittent fasting along with eating a lot fewer carbs. It's also a big part in lowering my Cholesterol numbers along with the daily exercise at least 4 or 5 days a week for 30 to 60 minutes.

Strange, but I took niacin with statins a long time prior to my onset of severe PN a few years ago. Go figure! 🤷‍♂️I subsequently discovered that there is some causal correlation between statins and neuropathy; it is also referenced somewhere in this forum. I have since replaced statin therapy with other cardio drugs. I am now scheduled for a pacemaker, to correct electrical signals in the heart! I have not researched if there are further correlations connecting these events.

Thinking about stem Cell treatments very expensive some say it works & most Doctors say it doesn’t any advice I will take it.
