Started Repatha - Side Effects

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Mar 21, 2024

I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

Repatha does an incredible job of lowering cholesterol. My went to 68 and my ldl dropped to 2!!! Amazing. Likely too low. My pain level in my knees and joints went proportionately. I’ve since stopped it to to detox in 3 months. 1.5 months in. Still have joint pain. A Dr on this discussion board said “ what good is low cholesterol if you can’t get out of bed in the am”. Best and honest advice I’ve seen!!

Keep me updated, I am wondering about how long it takes to have the weakness go away, I am thinking about stopping myself for a bit for sporting events and maybe get back on the meds for the winter months. Also will chart my LDL as I stop if I decide to do this.

55 years old and I have been on Repatha for about 2.5 years and it has dropped my LDL from 160's to 35 however I have very mild weakness in the legs while performing normal activities and it is much worse if I try to race my bicycle. I am thinking about taking a break to see if that changes to confirm my suspisions. Anyone else on here have issues with high level exersize on Repatha ? has anyone tried stopping and how long did it take for your side effects to resolve ?

I do yoga and on Repatha I couldn’t. I also was doing a lot of high exercise steps daily. I was only on it few months and had to stop. It has taken over 6 months to ALMOST get back to where I was.

It takes more than two months. My internist said “what’s the point of low cholesterol if you can’t get out of bed?” He also said that he wasn’t worried that my cholesterol was high because my ratio was good.

Today I had my knees exrayed and found out I have “ severe bilateral patellofemoral osteoarthritis”. So not Repatha. Will restart Repatha at one half dose and go from here. That’s the latest. Regards.

What do you mean when you say “so not repatha” ?
Are you saying Repatha caused knee arthritis ?

No. Was concerned that Repatha was the cause of my knee pain.
