Started Repatha - Side Effects

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Mar 21, 2024

I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

You just made my day! Thank you for saying that. What is your approach to managing what you have going on? What is your biggest challenge right now? How consuming is it for you?

I am trying to follow my doctors orders with the medication‘s and have been successful doing that and gotten my numbers down really low and as he says superbly! However, the emotional piece is difficult as it was quite a shock. I am researching and reading ahead, everything I can about. Coronary artery disease. I have taken great measures with my assets and put everything in to a trust and a will, and have POA‘s set up for my family. I now have a fiduciary, financial planner, an investment broker, and that stuff is all put in the trust too! I am in the process of clearing out my house. Getting rid of junk. I am always other people other centered And I have always tried to make things easier for everyone else, lol

He, @missey how do you feel about meeting my mom? She was in her early 80’s when we went in together to get calcium scans. My results were concerning and her score was ‘0’. 😳

Sure I would love to meet your mom or online, correct?

The uncertainty, if I am going to have a heart attack and when would it happen. Or a stroke. It’s a mental processing.

Dang, @llynch17056 I am sorry you have experience to know just how bad side effects can be. I feel your pain! Only you knows what pain fits with that net-positive. I do not have negative side effects from Inclisiran. I did have one rough night after shot #1, then a bit less of a rough night a couple days after shot #2. Related? IDK My doctor walked through that with me and here we are. They dug into details of lipid (APOB APOA, etc) and inflammation markers (ceramides, etc) to learn just where I fit in compared to the norm (my words, not theirs). What is your doctor recommending?

All my doctor said was if I can’t take statins or Repatha then he “had nothing for me.” Ugh. I said,” but YOU are my cardiologist and I can’t take those drugs.” He just kind of shrugged. I need a new cardiologist.

I’m 77. I have reached the age that if I died today no one would say “awww, she died young.” People die at my age all the time for many different reasons. A couple of years ago I downsized and got rid of LOTS of stuff. I am organizing. I have spoken to my daughter about where things are. What to do about my dogs. Made a will. Consolidated my finances. Made sure she is beneficiary on all my accounts. I have longevity in my family. My grandmother passed at 98 in her sleep and my mother died of Covid at 94. But, they didn’t have CVD.

I need a doctor that isn’t a statin pill pusher. Someone that statins are not their only show. I just need to know how much at risk I actually am. I eat clean, heart healthy, I’m not over weight, I exercise daily.

We sound so similar! My grandma died when she was 96 and I take after her physically in genetics and stature. I am so glad I found Repatha medication! I actually feel better. Those statins were awful feeling and painful for me.

I don’t know how old you are, but it seems strange that you would have a calcium score of zero, if you are older, middle-aged, or above! I don’t think I have met anyone with the score of zero unless they were an infant or child. Congratulations. If so, that’s very good news.

I am 66. The score of 0 was at age 65. I also had this test done about 10 years ago, also 0. I would think I wouldn’t need to take anything, and just let my number be high if it isn’t hurting me. Cardiologist says I likely have this score because I’m 128 pounds, have a good diet, and exercise daily. He says the high cholesterol and high blood pressure make me a moderate risk for stroke/heart attack.
