Spotting on and off for more than a week

Posted by @aoisakurachan, Sun, Jul 8 9:00am

Hey folks,
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what it turned out to be. I have been very lightly spotting on and off for a little over a week (June 30th -today, July 8th). My period was expected the 5th but I didn't get it. I took a preggo test today and it came up negative. I HAVE been getting the mild nausea and all that jazz, with no change in medication or any thing.Has any one else had this? What ended up happening?

@aoisakurachan Welcome to connect. I see you just joined today.

A lot of things can affect a womans period. It is too difficult to say. Also there are no Dr's on connect who can diagnose anything. I can tell you from experience that sometimes you can just skip a month. You can have one month with a light period too. Your period can be 2 weeks late. If your very stressed for any reason that can also mess up your cycle.

Woman's period cycles also change every so often, I want to say about every 7 yrs. mine did.

They say if it's more than 2 weeks late to check for pregnancy. If you not feeling better or are very anxious I would reccomend calling your OB/GYN.
Wishing you best.
Jackie

Hi, @aoisakurachan — I wanted to add my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Good idea to do some research and see what you could find about the spotting you've experienced.

Here is some Mayo Clinic information about what is normal or not with menstrual periods that I thought you might find helpful: https://mayocl.in/2ssu5gN.

I also wanted to introduce you to a few members who have talked about menstrual period irregularities for themselves or a loved one, like @confused77 @swilliams55 @violetmiles160 @behavioralsci @mmzs4000. Hoping they may have some insights from their experiences. @gailg may also have a thought.

@aoisakurachan — have you considered calling your doctor's office or a nurse line there to see if they could offer any input by phone?

Hi ladies, Thank you for your help! I have talked to a few different people. I did call my GP and she'd said it sounded like classic pregnancy and advised me to take a pregnancy test again a few days later.

I had also talked to a pregnancy counselor with the American Pregnancy Association who'd said the same.
I'm just not sure of anything right now. I've never been here. My periods are and always have been pretty reliable, and that's why I'm so thrown off!
