Is it safe to smoke cannabis post transplant?

Does anyone know how immunosuppressed a person has to be before they can be declared safe to smoke?

Hi, @jnorris3rd. Welcome to Connect. I am a liver and kidney transplant recipient. In fact, I received my transplant when I was 60, your current age.
One of the most important advice to all transplant recipients is to take immunosuppressant medications according to the directions of your transplant team.
Please talk to your transplant team before you add any supplemental items to you regimen. Anything could interact with your medication / health.
Are you newly transplanted? When is your next appointment?

Transplant was 2 months ago. My next appointment is in a few weeks. This is my second kidney transplant. The first failed in 2021 due to the BK Virus.

Also ask your medical cannabis physician on this. Mine surprised me with some fact based info about Coumadin and thc (not good), and a heads up to check with transplant team re post transplant and immunosuppresants. I stopped using my cannabis based meds while on unos list. Not much fun but for me it beat the alternative. Hth

I was told after a liver transplant that I shouldn't smoke weed because of a bacteria on the weed that doesn't bother people unless you are immunosuppressed in which case could be detrimental to your health. They said it has nothing to do with legalities, it's dangerous.
