Smile, Though Your Heart is Aching
Teri (@tsc) wrote in her profile that "[f]inding Mayo Clinic Connect as a resource, sharing experiences, and learning from others has been a great help and a remedy to the isolation imposed by the pandemic." The same can be said about how much Mayo Clinic Connect has meant to me during the isolation imposed by my husband's decline due to his chronic pain and immobility--and to Alzheimer's, Lewy Body dementia, vascular dementia and Parkinson's.
Thank you, Teri (@tsc), for your private message wishing me a Happy New Year during this eve celebrated by other people partying around the globe. I wish you the same, Teri. And to all of you in our support group for dementia caregivers, even if it's difficult to "party," at least we can "smile though your heart is aching," as Jimmy Durante is singing on my CD player. After all, we're still here to love and support each other--and to carry on the best we can in 2026.
Best wishes,
George's Wife

The song, SMILE, was written by Charlie Chaplin.
You appear to be a caretaker for your husband. I have not seen your story before.
It sounds like you are very dedicated.
I myself am Mild Cognitive Impairment.
What attracted me to this post was the title.
Smile.

@georgescraftjr George’s Wife, this discussion is so good. Obviously, you poured your heart into your post.
“To all of you in our support group for dementia caregivers, ‘even if it’s difficult to party, at least we can smile though your heart is aching.’ After all we’re still here to love and support each other—-and to carry on the best we can into 2026.’ So beautiful. So meaningful. Thank you, George’s Wife
