Shocked by aging process

Posted by seniormiz @seniormiz, 3 days ago

My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

75 and have been to Mayo for a blissful, life lengthening surgery. I could be morose. I am not. Sparing details let me say "this about that".
FORCE YOURSELF TO WALK! If you hurt, walk. If progeny screw up, walk. If you can't figure out a crossword on in paper or from someone, walk. Treadmill, living room, steps it all counts.
Get your monitor on your phone and with it in your pocket, walk.
You will be goaded to finish whatever goal you set.
WALK!

@morironman I live in New Jersey. We had a foot of snow which is now almost ice. The mornings start with single digits and get into the 20’s.

I get out in the morning for a short walk with my cane for extra support. That helps reset my mind.

This morning after the walk, I removed more snow from the car, Shoveled a little snow. Hassled to get enough snow away from the yard gate so I could open it. Filled the bird feeders.

A few small projects to do so that the day is productive.

Psalm 118. This is the day that the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it”.

I have not found any resources that explain the aging process in clear, concise manner. Almost every thing that happens to our bodies is probably “normal ‘ yet readily accessible information would help in cutting down on the shock that accompanies aging. I firmly believe the shock is something which keeps older people isolated..whether the isolation is voluntary or initiated by others. FWIW

Hi, Cath! Saw your profile.
You may have MORE than "one last" act to go. Maybe the current one is just "one" of many additonal ones yet to come.
All the best!

Yeah, I certainly appreciate your perspective of my “last act” thoughts. Just finding that I like my life now and there’s so much to learn and experience…so I do need a few more acts or maybe a really long last act! I see that you are a musician. I have a family of musicians, two daughters and one son in-law. I play nothing and listen to everything. As for so many of us, music calms, inspires, teaches and befriends us. Thanks for reaching out. The best to you as well.

@shmerdloff Thank you for the sober advice and for the Leonard COHEN lyrics. He’s my favorite lyricist and I’m so thankful to have his music to remember and reminded of his wisdom and humor. Have a good one!

@shelmadine "Oh, the last time we saw you, you looked so much older // Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder..." Yeah, Leonard said it all well.
