Shocked by aging process

Posted by seniormiz @seniormiz, Jan 25 8:54am

My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

Hi, Cath! Saw your profile.
You may have MORE than "one last" act to go. Maybe the current one is just "one" of many additonal ones yet to come.
All the best!

Yeah, I certainly appreciate your perspective of my “last act” thoughts. Just finding that I like my life now and there’s so much to learn and experience…so I do need a few more acts or maybe a really long last act! I see that you are a musician. I have a family of musicians, two daughters and one son in-law. I play nothing and listen to everything. As for so many of us, music calms, inspires, teaches and befriends us. Thanks for reaching out. The best to you as well.

@shmerdloff Thank you for the sober advice and for the Leonard COHEN lyrics. He’s my favorite lyricist and I’m so thankful to have his music to remember and reminded of his wisdom and humor. Have a good one!

@shelmadine "Oh, the last time we saw you, you looked so much older // Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder..." Yeah, Leonard said it all well.

There is a crack/ there is a crack in everything ; that’s how the light gets in.

I have felt the same way. I learned about Radical Acceptance and I accept the inevitable changes going on in my body and my mind. However- your nail and hair issues sounds like thyroid- have you had it tested? I try and focus on what I can do rather than what I cant. Hey I just started lifting weights. Im 72. I also decided to buy a wig cause my hair is thinning. Read the book, When I'm an Old Lady, I Shall Wear Purple. Be well.

yes, and thanks for the trouble you took from her eyes.

just a little push, and you'll be smilin'

(you're 21 and your mother still makes your bed ... and that's too long)

When I first moved here to Rochester, The first Administrator I worked with helping with the move became a close friend. He and his wife arranged a quiet party at their house of close friends. Some of us got to say good-bye to him. Then about 9 PM he passed. We all had a drink and toast to him to guide him on the way to God.

For protective reasons the human system is wired to retain (imprint) "bad" experiences rather than good ones-so we don't grab the hot handle again. "Nice" experiences fade because they have no information about danger to us.
So you have to "dig" for the good memories.
I don't remember the bird singing, but the bee sting?

I agree with you about good and bad experiences. I would add that great experiences are the exception. I was at a private concert in a private house in the summer. We had a fantastic event happen during the concert. The player was in his second song and it had a long pause in it. A wild bird was outside an open window. During the pause the bird starting singing the melody back to him (and us), then the player starting playing the melody with the bird. The moment probably lasted a minute but it felt like 5 minutes. The entire concert was captured on both audio and video tapes. The player was Dean McGraw of Minneapolis and he is a wonderful Guitarist! Still playing.
