Shocked by aging process
My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

@sueinmn I like what you say...I just turned 87yrs and I try to keep on painting and planning shows...am grateful for everyday I can work on my project even tho' it means I have to be a little anti-social sometimes..because I triage my energy and my time to work.I am lucky my friends respect my social decisions and remain my friends..with age I am finding a sort of respect from people that was unexpected...so I feel responsible and more grown-up in my 'old age"! My only angst is that I'll out live my $$ and that might be hard....but we'll see..maybe I'll be rich & famous by then. Who knows?

12 ReactionsAh, yes, @fromthehill, a fashion statement! That was how I regarded my cane when I first began take it out with me in public. I knew if only I could carry it "lightly," never be seen to be "needing" it, no one would be the wiser. My first canes were Big Box Store canes: extendable, aluminum jobbies. When I finally decided to splurge on a "good cane, I invested in a dark, hardwood cane and had it topped with a silver (not real silver) wolf's head. Why a wolf's head? That's because when I was a teen I had fallen wildly for the old b&w movie, "Wolf Man," with Lon Chaney Jr. and Claude Raines. If any remember that movie, you'll recall that a silver-tipped cane, swung just so, was the surest defense against werewolves. S, I don't know, I've been carrying my wolf's head cane for about five years now and I've yet to be menaced by a werewolf. My walking is still wobby––but no werewolves! 🙂 –Ray (@ray666)

Yes, I remember watching the wolfman at home alone on Saturday night late 10:30 to midnight. My folks played hearts with another couple switching homes every week. My brother and sister were younger than me so I got to babysit. Every year, we had a joint birthday party for three of us.: My dad, our friend, and I (1/31, 2/1, & 2/2) .

4 Reactions@rollingf Great memories! I too was the "babysitter" and often our friends' kids too.
And "joint" birthday parties - 3 some of my siblings and I had July birthdays (7th, 23rd, 24th & 25th) - not only a joint party, but one cake - I only got to choose the flavor every fourth year. I had a simple request for my sixteenth birthday - my own cake, to share with friends!

4 ReactionsHello, @rollingf. Lucky you! I had to watch Wolf Man alone. 🙂 My brother, 14 years older, was too sophisticated to want to bother watching movies about werewolves and vampires. Of all the old b&w movies shown on Zacherley's Shock Theater, the Wolf Man was my far and away favorite. As a lonely teenager, I'd watch as Chaney shape-shifted into a wolf and wish if only I could shape-shift into someone or something other than the boy I was. 🙂 Memories! Have a wonderful day, @rollingf. Cheers! –Ray (@ray666)

I have somehow torn a knee meniscus and the knee is prone to become unstable. I can be walking relatively normally and then I am in excruciating pain and can’t put weight on that leg. Or my knee suddenly collapses.
So I bought a cane, but I describe it as akin to walking someone else’s Dog. If I suddenly need it I fear I would have to first recall that I have it in my hand. Plus I tend to walk fast and it just looks silly with the cane. Donyou think a walking stick might be more natural?
@fromthehill I preferred walking stick, too. Mine is old, handmade…even have one for powwows, should I need it or just want some swagger !
@fromthehill I like the idea of your walking stick. We experienced a severe ice storm in northern michigan last march and we lost half of our trees. I saved some trunks to make something memorable and now I know what I will do. A beautiful walking stick! Thank you.

Gasport 🥦 (cauliflower brain) and Alan Freeds nerves 🍝 (spaghetti)
I ( age 68) was always hyper-focusing on every little gray hair and wrinkle, saggy loose skin and when I got my t-score for osteoporosis , I cried. My best mental and physical boost comes from helping my brother-in-law. He is alone after losing his wife ( my sister) from uterine cancer which she had been managing for 30 years . Her last words to me were, "There is more you can do." My husband and I had an important mission in helping my brother -in-law .Bringing him out of depression and giving him a reason to live put my focus where it should be. See your doctor or a podiatrist-this is something that can be helped ! Change your despair into something positive. You can handle this season of your life. " There is a time for every purpose under heaven." BLESSINGS !
