@rollingf Great memories! I too was the "babysitter" and often our friends' kids too.
And "joint" birthday parties - 3 some of my siblings and I had July birthdays (7th, 23rd, 24th & 25th) - not only a joint party, but one cake - I only got to choose the flavor every fourth year. I had a simple request for my sixteenth birthday - my own cake, to share with friends!

@sueinmn Funny how we don't think of the possible pluses and minus sometimes with what we wish for.
My Dad, sister, brother and I were all October and my Mother's baby brother who we lost in WWII was October. Recently I thought to myself, "Why didn't Mother think to have us all celebrate with a joint birthday 'party' and therefore we would have also celebrated Uncle Stanley with that celebration as a remembrance? Probably if she had we would have finally asked as you asked .....'my own cake.'
Again a bit of similarities with regard to our brother ..,....and then the birthdays...You all July...Me all October.
Babysit, ...yes did that also for my October born brother and sister who I would have shared the birthday cake with. They were/are to me my baby brother and sister.
