Rheumatoid arthritis flareup question

Posted by cavalier @cavalier, 1 day ago

I am currently on a fairly low dose of methotrexate. Was diagnosed with a minor case of RA. My flareups pop-up in different joints maybe once a month maybe once a quarter. Complete stiffness of right or left wrist for about 12 to 14 hours shoulder frozen about 12 to 14 hours. sometimes it’s in my jaw, making chewing difficult for about the same amount of time. Today I woke up with my left hip joint frozen and in pain. I have been training for a half marathon gently and the running hasn’t really hurt until today is the most severe in my left hip. any exercises recommended to push through gently I’m learning you have to move the joint.

RA is typically presented with bilateral joint pain. It doesn't sound like yours is bilateral. What other symptoms are you having? Have you had lab work done? What is your rheumatoid factor or SED rate? It's unfortunate, but a lot of these autoimmune diseases can be tricky to diagnose. Keep working with your rheumatologist, but insist on a comprehensive work up
Good luck

If this keeps happening your Ra is not under control. It will only get worse and leave joints damaged. Doctor can give you a steroid shot to help, but that is not the final answer. I have had that shoulder pain and it is horrible. Also it does do symetrical joints , but not always at same time. Meaning yes one shoulder can be frozen and the other fine. There is also placquenil in a pill. Also you may have to try biologics. Infusions. Make sure you document all the things happening and how long it lasts. If the doctor does not know what is happening they will think all you need is methotrexate.
