Required appts: do they include a sleep study?

Posted by cskluz @cskluz, Aug 4 6:58pm

I got my approval through billing to proceed with the program! Just wondering, what appts are required? I heard them mention sleep studies, is this something that’s always required or is it based off screening questions? I’ve never been told I have apnea, and don’t snore often, only when I’m VERY tired or sick. I’m excited to get started on this journey!

Great news about being approved. Every program varies, and sure, it has changed since I did it.
Not sure about sleep study; that was never mentioned. Many appointments will be to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery, usually a blood test and maybe an EKG. Some are for education on what you should be eating pre- and post-surgery. There may also be a psychological appointment. There is a big change in life, and a psychological appointment helps you understand expectations and challenges.

Do you care to share where you are having surgery?

I still have to meet with the surgeon for my consultation for an official go ahead for surgery, but planning on Eau Claire and leaning towards the RNY

Since I have sleep apnea, my surgeon was satisfied that I had had a sleep study 2 years prior to my surgery.
