Does anyone have a solution to help manage Reclast side effects?

Posted by dingus @dingus, Aug 15, 2024

Does anyone have a solution to combat Reclast side effects. I had the infusion a year and a half ago and the side effects started shortly after I had the infusion. I still have weak legs, swelling in feet, pain in bones, dizziness (serious dizziness), cold sweats, tired all the time and nervous twitching in bones. Any suggestions?

I know it’s not always genetic. There are many causes for it, as Dr McCormick explained to me. I had Lyme disease for a long time and that could have contributed. As well as being 100 pounds most of our lives. But my dad was 170 pounds, so that didn’t contribute. It is great we have medical interventions for those of us who did everything right, but still ended up with osteoporosis. I know someone who could even ride in a car because going over a bump would cause a painful fracture. We are so fortunate these days, and, I expect, it will only get better for future generations.

Last June 2024 I had a wreck last infusion, and the following day I came down with nauseated, feeling terrible pain in both shoulders and left foot. It has been about nine months to start out with the pain level scale would’ve been a 10. It is now maybe a 4. It is, it’s worse first thing in the morning as far as my shoulders go. My left foot the more I’m on it the worse it gets feels like I’m standing on a hot iron rod

It was a Reclast infusion! Sorry, I did not spell check! I go to physical therapy weekly and exercise, not as faithfully as I probably should but I try!

My Reclast experience for me very severe.
I apparently had a skin reaction of severe burning sensation of neck,
Chest and arms. I was infused the first year and did not notice the reaction so I took 2 more infusions and had this reaction the docs did not connect the 2 things back then
Skin and medicine they probably would today. So I stopped Reclast immediately once I determined the situation.
Because of osteoporosis, my doc started me on Prolia. We’ll see. It’s been 3-4 years.

Be aware that once you stop Prolia your bones will demineralize within two months and they will be even worse than when you started Prolia. The doc will have to prescribe another osteo med to "lock in" the Prolia med to keep it from leaving your bones.

Why would I ask about Evenity? Just curious to know why you ask.

Hello, my endocrinologist has recommended that I start Reclast after finishing up with EVENITY. I have had 7 shots with EVENITY so far.
It would be helpful to hear if there are some people that have had Reclast without side effects assuming there are people without them. This forum is very helpful, however it would be beneficial to hear success stories to provide balanced view.

I had Evenity for 12 months, now Reclast. I will start April 3rd. I too was wondering if people have no side effects. My friend said she was sick for 3 days with intensely painful bones, fatigue, and misery. Today I asked my Dr about it all. She said most people have flu like symptoms for 3 to 4 days. She said go to infusion well hydrated, take Tylenol, and if I have bad symptoms, take Zyrtec. She is going to give me the 45 minute infusion because that may cause fewer side effects. There is a 15 minute one.

Hi, I had the Reclast infusion on February 8th. The infusion was approximately 35 minutes. I drank a lot of water starting a few days ahead and the day of. I felt fine the day of the infusion but the next day, I was feverish with body aches and a headache. I felt off for about 5 days. I would say that I don't have any other side effects currently other than I feel a bit more tired at times that could also be related to the cold/flu that I am getting over. Overall I have continued to be very active and have no lasting effects.

I drank a lot of water (about 64 oz) two days before and the day before and I made sure I got in at least 16 oz before the infusion. I also did the Tylenol routine of the night before and every 4 hours after that for two more days. I felt fine until the evening of the infusion when I had some chills, was tired and my back ached a little. Mentally and emotionally I was completely fine. I am sure it's different for everyone but I was ready for the worst from all the posts I read online so I was surprised by how little it affected me. I hope for the best for you and whoever else reads this. Just remember it's not a certainty that it will be bad.
