How would you rate your quality of life 2 years post RALP surgery? Scale 1-10.

I'm 14 months post RARP and I would rate my life as an 8 on a 1-10 scale.

@jayhall For me only, things have changed for sure, as with everyone else in this group. I’m 2 1/2 years out and everything is continuing to get better. I guess I could’ve lead with that. 😃

@surftohealth88 - yes, I do specific exercises (as part of my PT) for my obliques, and my core overall.

I do try and engage my pelvic floor muscles before turning or reaching or whatever, but working in the kitchen (which is where that primarily happens), I might do those movements 20 times in a minute while preparing a meal, and it’s such an automatic, natural movement, I don’t always remember every single time.

I actually met with my lead APRN today for a checkpoint, and we spoke mostly about the incontinence. She’s very satisfied with my progress so far and said I’m right at or just a little above average, so I’m prepared to keep doing what I’m doing. A lot of my progress so far has been plateaus followed by significant leaps followed by plateaus, etc. I’m just waiting for that next leap!

That is fantastic !!! : )))
And yes, leaps happen regularly : ))) ! Those leaps are "funny events", actually, with no particular pattern or reason but such a nice surprise when they happen 😁 !

The AUS will be activated tomorrow. Then I’ll see what happens.

I noticed this problem a long time ago. The problem with waiting in the bathroom is that the bladder is constantly being refilled. The longer you wait the more you pee.

I have had my bladder checked by the doctor after peeing and it was empty.

Up till now, I have carried a small towel that I put in front of me when I sit down, otherwise I leave a spot on the edge of the bed.

I brought this up because I think it may be a common problem. I don’t have the problem when I’m standing up.

Today was an uncomfortable day wetting pads inside of pullups and lots of sweating, these things are so heavy you sweat about as much as peeing. Big wind storm last night and tree limbs on top of daughters house, really big ones and hole in roof, part of black steel fence flattened. I was over there with chain saw working. With some help we got the roof cleared, now hope roofer does the patching as promised as more rain tonight. It was like a mini tornado hit her neighbor in just a small spot.
Anyway whole point is that kind of work sure makes me pee, lift a big branch and just let loose. Don't know which is worse the sweating or peeing. Don't mind the work or heat. Came home and cleaned up good, don't want a rash.

I sure hope I don't have to stay the way I am now on this incontinence issue, it irritating, annoying and frustrating. I do all the kegels exercises, about 360 a day. Hopefully can start pelvic PT in couple weeks. Doctor said he wouldn't send in a referral for PT until 3 months and that is needed for Medicare payments. Medicare won't pay for PT on self referral. I stopped caffeine and alcohol drinking. Didn't drink much alcohol anyway, so that doesn't bother me much. Was eating lasagna the other night and wanted a glass of wine, but drank a Sprite instead.
I believe it all stress incontinence. When I lay around on couch, sit and visit or sleeping there is no problem leaking. I get the urge to pee and make it to bathroom with few drips when getting up and first few steps. But through the day when I am moving around it's a different story. In morning I weigh pad and it's usually .1 to .4 oz. Once last week .7oz. I believe that all happens when I get up out of bed and a little stress drips. For whatever reason I am getting up 4 times a night and have a full strong stream! I stop drinking around 7PM - 8PM and go to bed at around 12AM. Don't understand how I pee so much at night, yet during the day it's all drips unless I been sitting and visiting. They say they have a mesh thing to put in and can do in an office visit, but doctor saying they like to wait a year. Suppose to really work, but have to wait a year. Oh well, I know people in worse shape and should complain so much. Just a real change if life style in short period of time.
Also in this heat high 90, feel like temp 110 I am starting to get a rash or itch.

@diverjer I had RARP and also have to pee a few times at night, strong stream and a lot of urine. My PT suggested a couple of things...1. wear compression socks the last few hours of the day and 2. Before bed raise your feet (like putting on headboard) and flexing ankles, then go pee. These are to get rid of fluid retention.

Sounds like me. I will give the rising feet a try tonight. I don't have any swelling or anything that looks like fluid in legs. Actually kind of skinny old man legs, but I still wear shorts.

I would really strongly suggest to you (again) and plead that you stop lifting heavy stuff and stop working hard on hot days 🙏.
You had terribly traumatic surgery with blood loss, damaged artery, hernia repair , prostatectomy AND you had heart arrhythmia diagnosed. 😟 You do not wish to get new hernia forming or even something worse happening. I know that "you do not mind" working hard but it might be really too much just 10 weeks post op . Lifting heavy things and straining so early can actually impede and slow down pelvic floor recovery. : ((

I know you are right, our family has just been through a lot lately. Our granddaughter, her husband (he a journeymen plumber) and our 3 great grand children (one 7 months old) live in out daughter's basement. Our daughter (who is single now) is an APRN. She really didn't want me helping today. Granddaughter has a lot of medical bills, that is why they are in basement. The granddaughter is now in KUMC ICU after her 11th knee surgery done on Monday. The first nine surgeries were done by 2 different doctors (not from KUMC) that really screwed her knee up. The problem has something to do with kneecap after those 9 surgeries was about 6 inches up her leg and a lot more I don't understand. A couple months ago KUMC and granddaughter agreed to cut leg off above knee. Then on day of surgery to remove leg they wanted to try something that would take 3 surgeries, but hoped to save leg. They can't pull kneecap down all in one surgery as it would do too much damage.
Anyway, it a mess and I just trying to help out. With everyone having jobs and 3 great grandchildren 10 year old, 6 year old and a 7 month old, it takes a lot of juggling.
I really needed to help out as more storms coming tonight. Got limbs off roof and temporary patch on roof.
Daughter sure ask me a lot of questions as I was leaving about my medical condition.
