Pristiq withdrawal - sick with headaches, body aches, nausea, sweating
Oh my God! I am trying go taper off Prestiq 50 mg. I am so sick!!! The headaches are unreal! My body aches like I have a bad case of the flu. I vacillate between nausea and sweating! This is so horrible! I literally could not get out of bed today!
I cannot believe this! I do not have the brain zaps but the headaches are unbelievable!!! Help!

It is so hard to describe the sensations in your brain when the meds aren't working or weaning off them. What you described is the closest to what I would describe...even though it still doesn't do it justice. Hope something works for you. I started taking Pristiq again on April 1. I guess I am resigned to taking meds for the rest of my life. After getting past all the withdrawal symptoms and feeling great for about 2 months, these brain issues returned hard and fast. I am living an internal hell until the meds get up to speed. I hate the effects on my vision since I am very active and also love to read. Hang in there. Thanks for sharing
I took Pristiq for a few years in 2012-2014. My psychiatrist felt it was a very good drug with few side effects. However, due to it being an extended release tablet that can't be cut, they did not give a good exit plan. It is also not available in very low doses that would make a taper easier. He gave me low doses of Prozac, which is much easier to taper off. As I would decrease the Pristiq, I would take a little Prozac. I would alternate days. It was an easy off that way.
After I started pristq I started to feel itchy at night. I never connected the two Pristiq wasn’t a good med for me. I’m almost done and the itching is almost gone
Me too
Thank you I am going to suggest that to my Dr I am weaning now from 100 to 50 this week I am a work in progress
I have been on pristiq for at least 3 years, and it has worked really well for me. I am now in a place where I want to try and taper off it. Please don't tell me to work with my doctor as he is totally hopeless and knows nothing. He will however provide it at a lower dose if I ask him. What is the best lower dose to begin with?

1 ReactionI would highly recommend finding a doctor who will work with you. Pristiq is hard to taper off because of the slow release action of the drug and lack of low dosages. My psychiatrist helped me taper off by using Prozac. As I decreased the Pristiq, I added a little prozac until I was only taking it. Tapering off Prozac was easy in comparison. I don't have details because this was in 2014. It would be unwise to do this just by suggestions on the forum. I hope you find a good compassionate doctor - probably a psychiatrist - to work through this with you. I've not taken any antidepressants since then. It can be done.

2 ReactionsI recently started pristiq the 1st of August
they started me on 25mg about a month ago. Then she recently put me on 50mg a week ago But it’s making me very irritable so I am going back to 25mg today for a week and then I will start Zoloft. Do you think the withdrawals will be horrible?
Hi all.
I've just started weaning off 100mg Pristiq which I've been on for 5 years. Reasons for weaning off ate weight gain
and mainly emotional numbness which has caused me to no longer feel motivated, passionate, loving and creative. After reading all the posts here I have decided to take one dose every second day for a couple of weeks, then every third day for a couple of weeks and lastly every 4th day then just stop. So far I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms. I will keep you posted on how I go. All the best all who are trying to get off this awful drug.
Please consult your doctor- a slow taper is highly recommended.
