Prednisone for lung assistance

Does anyone take small doses 5-10 mg daily for lung health!?

@jerdonus I don't have COPD, but I do have asthma, Bronchiectasis, and rheumatoid arthritis. I have been prescribed prednisone many times for lung or joint inflammation, but have resisted staying on it long-term. We always try to find a safer daily medication because it can cause osteoporosis, suppress the immune system, raise blood sugar, interact with other medications, and cause or exacerbate bleeding/bruising.

Has your doctor suggested other alternatives?

I take 10 mg daily to help with my breathing. I'm concerned about all the side effects but can't breathe without it. I have severe COPD so it probably doesn't matter in the long run. I have a feeling the medications I take do more harm than good...! I'm also a bit grouchy today!

I use 10 mg but not every day. It really helps with my breathing and physical abilities. I also use Stiolto and albuterol rescue inhalers and nebulizer. Side effects from prednisone are slight weight gain runny nose and immediate diarrhea. All small prices to pay to be able to function. I’m over 80 and lost my lung capacity to Covid.

@hellopam Grouchy is so major accepted. Even 100% healthy people have grouchy days. Having COPD even taking responsibility for why we have it is no different than when we were healthy and had grouchy days.
Hugs and may today be as doable as possible.

I take 5 mg prednisone 3 days a week. I can’t stand it, causes indigestion too. I just tolerate it. What’s better alternative?

I prefer Methylprednisolone 4mg. It's only for 6 days with antibiotics when I have a BE flare. It boosts my energy and appetite with no bad side effects.
