prednisone and antibiotic use for copd, how often

Posted by lizjlb @lizjlb, Oct 7, 2025

Is it really necessary for both? I hate prednisone and the dosage is for a long time. Does anyone just take the antibiotic only? Prednisone keeps me from sleeping for one thing. Also, do you start them both or alone at first sign of a cold or wait till you get phylum and coughing. Seems like move start with sinus and then eventually turn into phylum.

@tjphillipp wow sorry to hear that, breztri shouldn’t make it hard to breath it’s supposed to do opposite but they say medication works different for everyone. Breztri has been a hit or miss with many, i like when I get the full dose but it doesn’t give out full doses all the time

I see. I use another nebulizer called Duoneb. It’s ipatropium/albuteral. Combivent is the same in aerosol form

I just had 7 weeks of prednisone and not only did I turn into a lumpa lumpa but it’s like taking speed. They did taper me off but are giving me the antibiotics for maintenance. I hope it goes well!

@tia8marie I remember the first time I started a 5 day course of prednisone, I thought it was a gift from God! Lol My lower back pain was close to nonexistent and my energy levels skyrocketed. I left on vacation after my first dose and boy what a great time I had! Unfortunately, I know it is not good for long term use. Some folks hate Prednisone. Not me.

Very interesting.. also ended up with flulike symptoms along with fever and not sure what to do this weekend other than take Mucinex Max and Tylenol. I grabbed and started a Zpack this Sunday which I later was told not to do unless a bacterial infection. Worried it might be pneumonia again but truly did not want to head to ER,…

I recently completed a 5 day course of prednisone and had absolutely no noticeable side effects.

@gemineye55 a 5 day course I believe is safe and helpful. It is the long term use that brings the side effects.

Yes, you’re probably right about that. I’ve never been on more than the 5 day course.

Was taking 10mg daily trying to get off to avoid long term effects of prednisone. down to 7.5 daily now-have to get off gradually.
