prednisone and antibiotic use for copd, how often

Is it really necessary for both? I hate prednisone and the dosage is for a long time. Does anyone just take the antibiotic only? Prednisone keeps me from sleeping for one thing. Also, do you start them both or alone at first sign of a cold or wait till you get phylum and coughing. Seems like move start with sinus and then eventually turn into phylum.

Quick note - I take prednisone at night right before I go to bed. That way it doesn't have time to get fully into my system and I can sleep. If I take it any earlier, it keeps me awake. Worth a try.

I always know when my husband‘s going to have a flareup… Starts with a small cough and turns into a bigger one… At that point we go to urgent care or the hospital and get on some right away so that he doesn’t have to stay in the hospital. If you can keep ahead of the exacerbations, it’s a win.

@lizjlb my pulmonary doctor, with the medications I’m on I always ask him first before taking anything . I told him I had a cold at the time and that’s what he said I could take

I should also tell you that he is on prednisone for the rest of his life… Small dose only… He is on portable oxygen during the day and an oxygen and CPAP at night. I’ve seen significant improvements in his sleep pattern… Hope this helps.

May I ask what dose he is on? I’ve been in the hospital three times this year and have been on prednisone since December. Trying to wean off ~ and get down to 5 mg a day but then the shortness of breath comes back and I have trouble breathing again.

Sometimes when one has been on prednisone for a long time, weaning has to be very very slow and gradual—perhaps decreasing by a portion of a mg at a time. Your doctor’s office should be able to help guide you. Prednisone does come in 1mg pills.

Sometimes when one has been on prednisone for a long time, weaning has to be very very slow and gradual—perhaps decreasing by a portion of a mg at a time. Your doctor’s office should be able to help guide you. Prednisone does come in 1mg pills.

I’ve been on both at the same time it’s what my doctor subscribed, he doesn’t let me stay on prednisone too long there’s a lot of bad side affects. I’m on breztri and ohtuvayre and i hardly sleep
