Predictors of mortality in MAC pulmonary disease
Interesting new article on observational study of 420 patients with MAC looking at outcomes of people with poor nutritional status (defined by serum albumin and lymphocyte count) who were treated with anti-MAC drugs for less than 12 months. Spoiler alert: stopping treatment early and poor nutrition leads to poorer outcomes. Not a huge surprise. Still, interesting reading.

As always, YMMV!

Regarding the Nutritional Aspect.
Eating healthy and being strong willed to follow guidelines for such things as diets prescribed for best outcomes is so important. Then there is the timing of the meals and the amount at each meal etc. etc.
Not necessarily easy but so important for a goal of living a longer life and with fewer health problems caused by unhealthy food manufacturer foods.
I, for myself, ( I understand that not everyone believes this) believe that we need to supplement with certain vitamins to keep us, the immune system strong.
I feel it is especially necessary as we have aged, meaning our systems have aged . Overall we were, our systems, probably never just perfect.
Supplementation for me means being careful and informed about our body, knowing ourselves by paying attention to how our body reacts to foods, supplements etc. and most important what supplements can actually do, what to take and how much to take and how often and when.
I thank my Mother who at a very young age informed and learned these things and helped my siblings and I to understand this.
My health problem(s )with BE, Eczema, possible LPR, all surfaced at the same time in my late 70's and my sister who is 70 has no chronic illness. Yes we both have had one hip replaced...so that might be a gene problem.
Wishing all to find our way to the answers we need and better healthy days.

1 ReactionIt is nice to hear that you are informed of nutrition and the supplement world. I also am totally into eating correctly and taking the proper supplements. People don't understand it but there is a true Advantage of understanding what your body needs you were made of minerals.Your body is depleted of them and you need to restore them.Thank you for your input

@detsdum
Just as one example.
I have had a tendency to have muscle back pain if a medication has a sodium base. I tried medications for a few days each, trying to do what the 'doctors' wanted me to do. I stopped after horrible back muscle cramps.
I have also had a tendency , since doing the saline for nebulizing, to have muscle cramps when getting out of bed.
So I eat bananas, make a smoothie, also, by putting banana in it and then if I feel it necessary I will take one potassium tablet if I feel I need to supplement.
I have paid attention to all for some time now, I am 83 and 7 months into learning all.
