Post Sleeve Surgery Issues

Posted by theilman01 @theilman01, Apr 9, 2024

Anyone know how long the gas lasts after surgery? I realized there’d be some right after, but reading it can last 6-9 months. If so, is there something to take for it?

Thanks for any advise

I really appreciate you taking the time to try to help me.
As I said I have Crohn's and it is a hard to deal with. Fruit is hard on me. Any roughage is. I have to eat fruit at certain times in the day. Morning is the only time I can eat fruit. I live with my son so some snacks are in the house. The cookie I might snack on are animal crackers, nothing real high in calories. I also take many pills and have a very sensitive stomach and need to take pills with food or I get stomach pain. I am really a mess with many medical issues all my life it seems. Almost died twice but almost does not count HAHA. My son believes there is nothing that can kill me but we know that is not true.
My insurance will not pay for a nutritionist or dietician. I have been looking into places like Home Chef, but that can be expensive too. My son shops for me and I have a long term management plan. I have asked for their help but nothing so far.
As for weight loss drugs, I did contact one of the companies for help and they never got back to me. I went back to my Bariatric Drs and ask for a revision of the sleeve. They refused. They would give me the weight loss drugs, but I can not afford the cost. Do you know they are only $99 in Europe? We are getting ripped off.
I agree the right foods make the difference if I could eat them. I told my gastroenterologist once that I do great on a Twinkie diet than real food. He laughed
Yes, you have to change your whole life to maintain weight loss.
Thanks again.
You have brought up things I have been dealing with my whole life and the sleeve operation was like a miracle for me. I was doing so well for such a long time, then wham surgery after surgery taking a yr or more to recover. I even had PT for years. I think food is giving me that comfort that I can not find anywhere else. I am staying active mentally, but it is just not the same. I hardly get sleep too.
I hope your life is going great for you and you are blessed with all you need.
Thank you once again for taking time out of your life to try to help me.

You are dealing with a lot indeed. I don’t know which insurance you have, but some of them have a program with the company who works as a team for those insureds who have a chronic condition to coordinate your health care needs, find you resources, maximize your benefits, etc. Maybe, that could help.

I don’t know how you might motivate your sons though. That would be challenging. Depending on their age, they may not realize how important these matters are.

I have heard some meds are much less expensive in other countries. The disparity in availability is shocking. Just doesn’t seem right. I’ll continue to hope an answer comes through for you. You seem to have good insight into your challenges. Best wishes on reaching your goals!

I understand how sometimes things may get you down and you worry at night. It seems like you are dealing with a lot right now. I am not a doctor so I don’t have advice on your diet but I understand that you said the stress is causing you to eat at night too. Have you tried talking to a therapist to work through the stress you seem to be having? I understand you have a lot going on and sometimes it feels better to talk to someone that might give you tips on working through the questions and feelings you are having about the weight gain. Please don’t give up as you have a lot to offer the world and yourself. Keep working on the exercises you can do. Drink lots of water. And try keeping a smile on your face. You can do this!!!
