Please Share 3 Things You Appreciate about Being Old
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm looking at the positive. Some folks don't like the word "old" but I don't mind it. You can substitute "aging" if you prefer! I'm thrilled to be 71 and looking at 72. Due to serious health concerns in my youth I never expected to make it this far. So here goes--and I hope you can join in.
My Three Positive Things
1. I know what my ethics and beliefs are, and I'm no longer worried I might betray them because of outside pressure.
2. I can tell a good story based on life experience.
3. I'm less self critical. My mom told me that if she made a mistake she'd say "you're so clumsy" to herself. When she turned 80 she changed and told herself "you're doing great!"

@1995victoria Thank you for this message. I was feeling a little guilty because I had started getting out of bed later than usual, enjoying my breakfast while watching morning news and taking the time to think about what "I" wanted to do that day - not always what I 'have' to do. (In a lot of cases I've discovered that the'have to do' list can wait.

3 ReactionsI am 66 years young. Married 48 years.
1. Enjoying retirement with my husband, 2 teenage grandchildren, daughter and son-in-law. Plus 3 brothers.
2. I, too like so many have health issues. But, I can always look around and see somebody else in worse condition. Thankful I can chase after my family.
3. Teaching myself new crafts. My new love is quilting. It is my therapy for many things.
4. I know 3 things. But, I feel blessed in so many ways.

4 ReactionsAt 86, I find that getting old is probably a big item to face. I have progressed with trial and error, and I am still in that process now.
1. I enjoy being asked for advice. Sometimes, I refer to mistakes I have made to reference things to avoid. Being a “sage” is rather uplifting, and it helps me bond with people I do not necessarily know that well,
2. I enjoy reading and staying up late and sleeping in the next dsy. In other words, avoiding a rigorous schedule offers a great advantage, at times. I am exhilarated to just “float and enjoy the day.”
3. Being older has made me try to remember the best of my life and that “fear of the end” has diminished great deal. I suppose it has caused me to see the little things I missed while whizzing by during my career. Stopping to smell the roses is not a bad idea.

8 ReactionsMy dear friend just told me "I never expected to be this happy and this productive at this point in life." She is my role model, and this observation led me to finally posting my 3 things.
I can still be of service to others, in ever-changing ways.
My faith is my own, and I don't need anyone else to tell me how to practice it, or whether it is right or wrong.
I no longer need to try to prove myself or my worth to anyone. I am happy with who I am becoming.
