Please Share 3 Things You Appreciate about Being Old
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm looking at the positive. Some folks don't like the word "old" but I don't mind it. You can substitute "aging" if you prefer! I'm thrilled to be 71 and looking at 72. Due to serious health concerns in my youth I never expected to make it this far. So here goes--and I hope you can join in.
My Three Positive Things
1. I know what my ethics and beliefs are, and I'm no longer worried I might betray them because of outside pressure.
2. I can tell a good story based on life experience.
3. I'm less self critical. My mom told me that if she made a mistake she'd say "you're so clumsy" to herself. When she turned 80 she changed and told herself "you're doing great!"

@blm1007blm1007 At our age (I'm just 81 1/2) I think that we can say with some authority that we had the best music. I'm grateful that I can easily access it online.

6 ReactionsThanks for that. Really needed a 'virtual acknowledgement'. My youngest brother is the third one to die. That's it. Only me left. He and I were the 'little kids'. Close throughout our whole lives. He had a major stroke 2 years ago and the struggles he faced were mind blowing. He ultimately succumbed bc of kidney failure. My 3 brothers were my world. When my husband died at 52 (25 years ago on 12/12) I still felt their strong presence that I was not alone in this world. Then Mom died, 2 years later Joe died of pancreatic cancer, 2 years later John the oldest kidney cancer. Lost 2 best friend to cancer. Nephew committed suicide at 44. Sometimes I just wonder....and sometimes I just cry...but most days I fit in something good. Something positive. It's all saw daunting! Thanks for lending an ear!

14 Reactions1.The absolute privilege it is to see my 4 grandchildren grow up. To have a role in their lives as well as my children's and my extended family
2. To be a fit as I possibly can be in my 71st year.
3. To share the love and my life with as many as possible in my network and those struggling in life.

14 ReactionsI enjoy sleeping until I wake naturally, no more alarm clock usually 830. Then I can sit read the newspaper and drink my coffee and maybe by 11, I'm ready for my oatmeal with raisins. Sure I have a lot of items on my ToDo List, but I'm not in a hurry, when I get around to it.

12 ReactionsI’m grateful to have what I need and many of the things I want. I’m happy especially to have people I care about in my life. My parents died recently after living full and long lives (they were in their 90s). My older brother died shortly after they did at 68–way too young, of cancer. I am grateful to have my 5 siblings and my wonderful husband and two kids and a daughter in law.
I am happy we rarely need to set an alarm and can go to sleep and wake when we choose, wear whatever we prefer, I work/volunteer as much or little as I choose.
I am also happy to be relatively healthy except for my progressive lung condition. Also glad H and I have great medical teams.

5 ReactionsThree things I appreciate about being old:
1. The ability to be content without needing to “do something” —more often than ever before.
2. Seeing humanity in the people I meet, genuinely accepting that we are all different, accepting that others’ opinions are accurate reflections of how they see the universe. . . more & more every day.
3. Accepting my life & my life situations & feeling gratitude rather than trying to push the river.

You are so right! We did have the most beautiful music. (I'm 79) One of those was Ray Charles singing, "America the Beautiful!" I remember when I could see Ray Charles for $1.oo at the Evergreen Ballroom in Olympia, Washington. He wasn't well known yet but he was very talented!
